Just curious, in the Vanishing Point lyrics, what does "Whistle down the wind" -as in And they gave him away Like in "Whistle down the wind" refer to, and what significance (if any) does it have to the band ?

An excellent film with HAYLEY MILLS in.Some kids find an escaped prisoner in a barn and when they ask him who he is...he says JESUS CHRIST (exclamation ONLY).They then take him food and think he is the son of GOD.Brilliant film and he is just commenting how YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY (escape) like in WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND..child innonence and MANS cunning etc.Get my drift!:D

The kids actually tell the POLICE where he is hiding in the end of the film DON.

I thought he said "like Ian whistled down the wind, by the look on his face he never gave it up..." hence it sounds like tribute is being paid to Ian Curtis.

..and one of the little kids in the film says " He's not Jesus, he's just a fella" A reference to the false deification of Curtis perhaps? Are there any other film script references in Sumners lyrics?

I remember how upset the kids are when they realize he is not JESUS.

I remember falling in love with Hayley Mills when I first saw this film, a fixation that only ended when I chanced upon Jenny Agutter sans kit in Walkabout. Whistle down the wind must have affected Barney in a similar manner for him to have incorporated it in lyrics some 20/25 years later.

I'm a simple soul, I prefer the lyrics in Vanishing Point - Making Out Mix.

This is even more interesting than I've thought ! Is it an English movie, I don't think it was ever shown in Croatia.

and Hayley Mills was, what, 10 in the film? These were definitely pre-pubescent cravings although by the time Agutter stripped off....

to me the last line of the songsong always seemed like praise to Jesus, who never gave in, and that it was about people giving jesus up to death on the cross, but when you take the entire song into acount it is more likly to be about Ian Curtis

Vanishing Point, like most of Technique, is about Barney and Sue.
