New Order sites in Manchester — Forum Archive

Hi, all! This is my first post to the New Order board! My brother and I will be in Manchester in early September, and I'm a huge New Order / Joy Division fan (also the Smiths, Erasure, bands like that). Could anyone possibly recommend some places in Manchester related to New Order to visit? I don't worship them or obsess over them or anything, BTW; I just love their music. Also, what would be some good clubs to go to in Manchester, now that the Hacienda Club is gone? Please e-mail me at vail@engr.orst.edu if possible. Thank you very much in advance. Cheers,

yo michael, welcome to the forums, im unable to help you with the manchester thing since i havent been there before but i do know that the soccer season here is over and you'll find it hard to catch a match (unless of course you catch a friendly during the summer)

I was there last year. I visited Palatine Road in Manchester and went to see Hacienda's ruins. Also went to MacClesfield to visit 77 Barton Street,MacClesfield Cemetery and Crematory.

One word of advice - Manchester is an overrated dirty violent gun-crime-ridden hellpit - statistically students and visitors there are twenty times more likely to get attacked, robbed or even shot than anywhere else in England - why don't you come and visit our home town of Norwich instead?

Clubs: The one and only 5th avenue on princess street. Guaranteed to get a non blue monday/true faith single on at the start and then both of them later on.

But beware of the tempremental DJ, can annoy the crowd by playing build me up butter cup and jackson 5.

Very VERY cheap drink as well, £1 for a vodka red bull on thursday, although its cheap and nasty red bull and chaep and nasty 'paint stripper' vodka.

loads of us from here met up in the DRY bar, bit of a dump now - but it's history innit!

You can also visit where the Hac used to be, I think they've built flats on it, when we were there there was a portable toilet on it.....Ironic :lol:

I'm sure one of the Mancy regulars will help you out :nod:

Nearly forgot the ROADHOUSE, where the HOMAGE night to New Order was held.....that was a good craic an all.

Best club in the world ever! I was living for a year in the building round the corner (Velvet House I think it was called but Alzheimer has taken its toll!) Opposite the main entrance for the UMIST, I had the best memories from this place, best music selection, getting free entrance when wearing my RECYCLE T Shirt and being greeted by the bouncer with "New Order? Best band in the world, mate!" Only the Brickhouse comes close...

Ah so many memories :cry:

By the way, I never had any problems in Manchester (or Salford!) and I used to walk home every night.

Is the Beer Keller venue still there by the way? Nice littleintimate venue that was. the last time I was up there, I saw some great bands - and they have comedy nights there too If i recalled correctly.
