New Order in U.S.

Hi. I don't check the site that often. Have New Order mentioned touring in the U.S. at all in the future? Just curious. Thanks, B.J.

Nope...

Since cd sales are piss poor in the US, I don't think they will ever do a big tour again. But they might do a couple shows, like they did for Area 1 tour.

But there are no concerts set for this year at all

The only way NO would tour here would be because of a successful album here, and the only way American people would buy a NO album would be because of a glitzy video or, some cameo on the record by some stupid pop ditz, or if some artist would make a really good cover of a NO song, that could garner some attention. Scarcely anyone know who NO is in this neck of the woods; some people may recognize Blue Monday, but that's about it. Stupid AMerican music taste

Plus it's a real shame since some bands that people love here in the US love JD/NO, like the red hot chili peppers

maybe the "Touching from a Distance" movie? we could all raise some funds (cut back on alcohol consumption for a week, praps?) and try to beat Hollywood to it. it could be a group effort. we could write scripts and have a poll (cringe!) on the best one. Get some actors, have some people from Manchester/Macclesfield area shoot some exteriors, shoot the interiors wherever (that reminds me- did they ever sell 77 Barton Street? we could get in there). just shoot the whole thing in black and white DV or something grainy like 16mm.

none of this tribute album stuff---let's make a fuckin movie! the process alone would be enough to get us some sufficient press. too bad the rights have already been sold or it wouldn't be such a terrible idea. i'm down for it.

I'm sure if they could be arsed to play a few one-off gigs in say a big conurbation like NYC or LA or similar that it would sell out.

I can't see them ever doing a coast to coast tour though.

Yeah, well sales were even poorer for "Bloodflowers" by the Cure, and the Cure STILL came to the US in 2000, even playing at the former E-Centre, one of the largest concert theaters, in the Camden/Philadelphia area. Enough people showed up. So New Order should come, even if they only play east coast shows, unlike at Area one, in which they played at none on the east coast.

I don't think the trade center had anything to do with it. I dont think Barney and Peter are pussy's (maybe Steve?!?!?!) I think it was mostly their American record label not suporting them.

Hence the Crystal video. Such a smart reply to American tastes. I laughed through the whole thing the first time I saw it. Orgy needs to be shot dead. Oh wait, they are dead now since their own songs went nowhere. I mean really, who releases a cover of a song the original band had just re-released two years prior?

NO's american audience dwindled during the hiatus. It wouldn't take much to get 'em back. get out and play a couple shows just to show that you aren't a bunch of tired old hacks. do a 10 date North American tour (headlining) prior to N.A. album release, and then hit 'em again a few months after the album is released. It's not going to be like playing at home, but there isn't anything like home-field advantage.

I think NO could tour the U.S. easily. They'd just have to swallow their pride(s) and play in small venues. I mean, if Idlewild can headline a small tour in the U.S., freakin New Order can..

learn from the Pet SHop mistake.

on the US leg of the nightlife tour, they lost loads of money playing in giant venues (irvine meadows, universal ampitheater, etc...). the next time they came around, they played in 3000 seat capacity places. nice.

Well I just read that Blur is playing the Avalon, a tiny club in Boston, before continuing their arena show tour. I saw one of XTC's last shows at the same place many years ago. I think I'd prefer seeing NO in a smaller setting.
