Cut Here by The Cure:Is this a cover of a lost New Order masterpiece or what????

Don't know if anybody here agrees, but this superb new single by the Cure should have been a New Order masterpiece.... It brought back so many memories, but it is still so fresh.... OK, I would never compare New Order to the Cure (they are also good though), but "Cut Here" repeats the same story as "Close to me":One of the best new order songs, sadly NOT written by New Order....... So far I was more than pleased with Turn My Way and Primitive Notion from GR, but "Cut Here" is something out of this world...

PS: One of my wildest dreams is an LP where New Order will do Cure covers and viceversa....I know it will never happen, but thanks to the Cure for making up some New Order songs and then doing the covers.......

New Order covering The Cure & vice versa? haven't you heard; they already have done, several times over!! For example: "The Walk" is a cover of "Blue Monday" (Cure do NO) The intro to "Sunrise"/"This Time of Night" is a cover of "A Forest" (NO do Cure) "In Between Days" tips its hat to "Dreams Never End" (Cure do NO) "All The Way" is a cover version of "Just Like Heaven" (NO do CURE) "Plainsong" is a cover of "Atmosphere" (Cure do NO)

Both bands have been returning the compliment ever since!! Any more we can come up with?

Fully agree with you Seb, Okay so not even The Order are averse to retreading old ideas, but the Cure have become steadily less successful and relevant ever since they basically ran out of lyrical/musical ideas for their songs: notice how much the words: kiss/mouth/eye/I/lips/this/fall/push/jump/desolate/heart/black/rain/again feature in most of their back catalogue. "Disintegration" was their last great LP: none of the later ones felt like the band had anything new to offer: "Wish" was half good, half cack, "Wild Mood Swings" was just a half-baked "KissMeKissMeKissMe"; "Bloodflowers" is "Disintegration" all over again, this time with even longer songs. Robert Smith is just repeating himself over and over again now, to ever diminishing returns. Why on earth didn't he split the band up in 1989? At least Siouxsie and her chums had the good grace to call it a day after 20 inventive (but largely unacknowledged) years together, and moved on to other things. Why can't Fat Bob? Fact: The Cure ARE the New Pink Floyd - alternative rock's aristocracy of Dinosaurs. Do they not know when to stop?

OK people, I think I can see your point here. Still, I cannot help thinking how impressed we would have been if Cut Here was included in Get Ready.... Although I am not a cure fan (honestly), I think you judge them very harshly..... And in response to your post Seb, I think I prefer to listen to the "same" song than listening to flat and mainstream attempts from my favourite band. I repeat, I adore New Order but it just happened to listen to "cut here" and "run this river dry" on the same day....... What can I say....RunThisRiverDry sounds so awfully mainstream and uninspired (thank god it was not included in GR)..... I may be exaggerating, I don't know...........

Very interesting point above about the similarity between so many Cure and NO songs. I had found some of these a long time ago on my own, but at least two of the five listed were new realizations for me. Anyway, "Cut Here", though it doesn't break any new ground musically or lyrically for the band, it just a great song. I listen to it over and over and just keep enjoying it. Sadly it is far better than anything on Get Ready, except "Crystal" (which is only so good because of how much it sounds like older NO songs). Yes, as with Bloodflowers the Cure may be repeating themselves, but at least they are still making quality music. If New Order had repeated themselves more on Get Ready, it would have been a far better album. Instead they are content to just repeat other mediocre rock bands. If you don't have any great new ideas, you are often better off repeating the best of your own old ideas, as an unbiased quality comparison between Bloodflowers and Get Ready proves.
