In Celebration of the Happy Times Ahead for Tabsy

I couldn't help but get excited when I read that Tabernacle Numero Several is only a few hours away from receiving the 'official' US release of the hit album 'Getting Things Ready' by the popular 4-piece combo Newest Orderlites. I'm sure Jeff the boy White and the other US army and navy allies are equally ecstatic at the thought of playing the genuine article on their various stereograms after a great many of us European egg whisk generalisers have been flaunting our ill gotten gains for many and several weekends without restraint.

... As if this wasn't enough to cope with (phew!), it transpires that Tabsy has NOT heard 'Running Wild' !!! (but most probably all of the others via various illicit download arenas on the interpipe that most of us frequent). We can only hope that a member of his family or a distant relative, a friend, perhaps a strong pet will be standing near when Tubby falls proud of the carpet in the sheer delight of the said product - a collapse of the human mind after exposure to too much pleasure in one night. How it makes me sad yet excited that he has yet to hear this beautiful ballad in all its glory.... its difficult to come to terms with.... I don't think I ever could or can can do the ostriches right.

As if THAT wasn't enough (this will be too much for some people to take)... it now has come to light that T7 also has yet to sit through 'Technical Teats'?!!! - not heard Mr. Discoid yet?!!!! - good lordy miss lordy, one of my all time faves yet to be witnessed by a faithful fan-a-rooney!!!. It did but make me cry tears of utter sadness when I first let that song enter my soul. Such a truly beautiful verse melody (and I'm sure Busty Buster will agree). Powerful moments.

........ As if that little lot wasn't enough... its the Tabsy's birthday in and around the aformentioned events.

Well I say 'Happy Birthday T', and I also state that Good Times are Around the Corner. (And I Swear... It's Getting Warmer).

Yes, Huntsy, in the old days we could never understand how Seven could go through a whole day without being in possession of 1989, although I have on occasion made somewhat disparaging comments about certain aspects of that work. Nonetheless Diminishing Print is perfect.

Hello Patty, I thought you'd gone and left us all for another small break in the sunny Californian hills. It is difficult to comprehend that T7 hasn't passed through the point of no return, i.e. Technial Lego. He has yet to see what the man can do, and all the hate of a woman to.

I think I was still in the wilderness during your anti-'89 posts. Probably for the best, I couldn't face-up to a confrontation about such matters. May these hideous beasts remain within the closet for all time.

I don't know if you've read the Mr. Hooky Monster thread Pats, arguably one of the most hilarious outbursts to date... and that's a factoid. Check it out, don't chicken out.

Of course, I agree, Huntsy. Mr Disco is a true splendor.

It is great isn't it Buster. An absolute gem and classic song all rolled into one. The syndrums (aka 70's disco efforts) kicking it after the first chorus are a wonder to behold. The sampled human voice synth lead is a great New Order moment. My favourite lyrics of all time are found on this song... utterly sad.

Ibiza, Mayorca and Benidrom to, I've searched all those places, but never found you. (cue explosion and beginning bass of Vanishing Point... magic!).

And while we're on the subject, wasn't '89 a killer year for albums: NO's "Technique", De La Soul's "3 Feet High...", The Stone Roses debut, The Pixies' "Doolittle", Throwing Muses "The Real Ramona". And then we got a summer so hot I still get faint just thinking about it. And then, just when you've reached the arse end of the year, you get "Getting Away With It"..........

It should be illegal not to own the 12" version of this record. Give it to newborn babies instead of a NI number. Niiiiice cover, too.

Of course we're talking about the classy whisky tumbler on the rocks with sweeping brandy coloured tones set against a double printed gloss black finished with printer sealant. Good god Peter Saville is a class act. Class cover, class song. A real shame Benny requested the manly accompanyment of the feline Neville Tensa on the track... oh well, at least the Marr plucked up the courage to cover the middle 8 with a 'hapeth of spanish geetar.

Did you know that Benny the man Bernard Summit dug 'Anne Dudley' out from within 'The Art of Noise' to conduct the beautiful orchestration found in such abundance on the closing phrases of the song? - the man has talent, and he can also harness talented people... which is a rare talent. Boy though, what a quiff he had back then... could knock you down at the distance of several feets.

On the subject of '89, P-man will have to speak for himself, however, have to agree Matsy, that for god's sake it was a hell of a summer wasn't it? - was it just me or did life just gel in that summer?! - pints outside pubs bathed in the setting sun listening to the Stoned Rose Manufacturers and the Happiest Mondays spread-eagled across the stereogram, girlies for the taking and enough light snacks to make your mother weep.

I'm afraid I'm having trouble remembering anything about 1989 apart from those multi-colored baby angels. Let's see, something else must have happened that year.

I didn't know the about the Art of Noise connection, but I do just lurve those sweeping strings at the end. And that's probably my fave variation on the classic Barney cut you're mocking there, my friend. And that's dangerous territory. Because as we all know (though many of us probably refuse to admit it), vaguely homoerotic feelings towards the pre-pies Bernard were all part of the initial Order-based thrill.

But your sepia-tinted memories of the halcyon days of '89 are very similar to mine. Less snacks in my version, mind......

BTW, Tim, did you ever go to the dubious House of Hedonism known as Shelley's?? Quite possibly the scariest experience of my entire life, alongside Brum vs. Stoke at St Andrews in 91-92. Never quite recovered from either: nervous twitches, psychotic episodes, borderline dipsomania......

Nah, venturing to Keele Student Union once in a blue moon was scary enough, no way was I doing Shelleys ! Scariest Stoke moment was when a load of Stockport got in the Boothen and went off when ugly giraffe Francis gave them the lead. :dead:

But, anyway, today is the day GR gets its chance to enter the U.S. charts at # 257.

No I didn't go to that, saw Loop and Lush the same night (6 Dec 89?)up at Keele. Never saw the Mondays other than as support to New Order.

Well, Huntsy, I don't know whether I'm that much of a devoted fan. 119,000 is a bit more than I had in mind even to aid the cause. What's more, I don't think I have anywhere to put that many. I suppose I could give them away on street corners; but then I might be arrested on suspicion of spreading anthrax.

I saw them at Liverpool Uni about this time, one of the last small venues before 'Step On' it was a top night,nice one,sniff,sorted, etc.

Yeah, like Shelley's mentioned above, if you weren't trippin' off your box, Mondays' gigs at this time were a pretty sinister experience. Like 4000 fish eyes all staring at you. A pretty strange evening, all told.

I think I may have been at this Monday's gig. I used to go out with someone who used to go to Stoke Poly and used to catch the train up after watching the Blues on a Saturday. Did you ever go to that place that was called the, er, Place?

If you live in Stoke, going to The Place a compulsive habit, you kind of do it even though you don't want to, even though you know it's gonna be messy, even though you know people are gonna frown upon you for it.

Kind of like picking yer nose. There are diseases available in The Place that cannot be found anywhere else on earth. You'd better pray Bin Laden doesn't find out about it 'cos we'll all be fucked.

I was at that gig, I remember it well. They did some, of their best gigs down the International 2. Think it was that gig we got our car broke in to cos we didn`t pay off the local little kids to watch it.
