Why isn't Phil Cunningham the greatest?

I feel sorry for the poor bastard - being left out of this whole thing.

He's a Macclesfield lad as well, remember. Shouldn't he be getting more attention than just a footnote?

well, he's not really of new order--doesn't write with them, etc., but...

three cheers for mr. cunningham for helping them out and doing a fine job!

then we'd have to thank all the background singers (dawn zee, et al), as well (or deride them, as some members of this site may be inclined to do!).

Because I can't see his name without thinking of Phil Collins for some reason :D

:singer: (insert bald jokes about Phil Collins here)

let´s wait and see what he actually adds to the band on the next album. we know he added a lot live, but still don´t know in a studio... well, we´ve got vietnam. but i don´t know if he´s the one playing the reggae chords (i think so) or the hard guitars on the chorus (that´s barney, isn´t he?).

...er, heard on pretty good authority last week that he is involved with the writing side of things now!

Still not an official member of the band but perhaps that day is moving closer.

I have nothing against him being added as an 'offical' member, but it just won't be the same without Gillian. As long as he doesn't look like Phil Collins....:thumb:

umm....he's not the greatest because he isn't Gillian. Really, it would seem so strange if he became an official member of the band. He does his job and should get credit where credit is due, but the newbie does stick out. We'll have to see what he does writing-wise. of course, he'll never look like this:

Taboo no.7, who the hell said you could post a picture of that disgusting balding android Phil Cholic on my thread? How dare you soil the topic of conversation in such a disgraceful way! Kindly remove that offending picture at once.....or you will be forever condemned to be listening to NOTHING but his big plant pot drum solos until the end of time.

A local lad he is. Well good for them. Perhaps he will help them grow. Get Gillian back and Barney will be free from overworking his guitar and Gillian will be free for keys during gigs.

I don't have anything against PC because I know nothing about him. I'm sure he's a damn fine guy, but he's not Gillian. I kinda think that maybe fans were skeptical of Gillian when she joined in 1980. It's only natural.

But...NewOrder has to change their name if Phil Cunningham permanently replaces Gillian.

I hate him because he's the new guy...and when the guy brought on to augment the live show becomes the new guy, who then shows up in the publicity photos...well, it's over.

I submit another fave band, Crowded House, as evidence. Backup stage monkey appears as new member, original drummer leaves...I know it's over.

If she's a Texan, Dave, then perhaps I could qualify as 'short' too? They're all amazonian beauties with legs like Dali's elephants in them there Southern States, aren't they?

What does Marion sound like? I could never find a mp3 anywhere.

Marion are a Smiths-y indie guitar band or minor repute that had their biggest profile around the early 90s. They did maybe two albums then split. I know very little about them but some wag at the Macclesfield local paper once hilariously labelled them "Industrial rock screamers" - this is absolutely true.

Oh, the thought just occured to me why Phil is so ignored. Perhaps it's because his surname sounds like Cunnilingus. Like I said, just a thought.

I have their two albums. The second one, "The Program", produced by a certain Johnny Marr, is great. I wouldn't label them as Smiths-y, though. They were far more rockier...

well then, guess he does deserve a bit more respect, perhaps!

at least they're getting on with 'the writing side of things.' that's got to be a good sign.
