As for the Cooking Vinyl Church albums, I don't really listen to Hologram Of Baal or Magician Among The Spirits very much, though they do have some good songs on there; they just don't sound as focused as such great albums like Blurred Crusade, Starfish, or Priest=Aura. They did play a couple of songs from those two on their last tour, Buffalo from the first and the title song of MATS, and they sounded great when mixed in with the new and older stuff they played (Electric Lash? talk about unexpected! )

After Everything Now This, from 2002, is a rather good return to form, IMO; lots of the classic Church sound and Steve's luscious vocals and enigmatic lyrics. This one made more than a few best of lists from last year, and I don't know any fan who is really disappointed with this one in any way, shape, or form.

Don't know if you've picked up the Box Of Birds covers album, which isn't bad, but the versions of Televison's Friction and Mott's All The Young Dudes don't add anything at all and sound rather average. I love their version, however, of early Ultravox's Hiroshima Mon Amour, which is really really good.

I know this one breaks the rules but I made a great CDR compilation a few years ago - which I still play frequently in my car. The compilation features various Factory bands and was entitled "Factory Seconds" (no insult intended). The track listing is as follows:-

Crispy Ambulance - The Presence A Certain Ratio - Flight Section 25 - Melt Close Durutti Column - For Belgian Friends Crispy Ambulance - Simon's Ghost A Certain Ratio - Winter Hill Section 25 - Inspiration Durutti Column - English Landscape Tradition

The CD is housed in a Peter Saville look sleeve designed by yours truly. The CD deliberately had no Joy Division / New Order (as to most people it is familiar). I love it when people travelling in my car prick up their ears and cannot believe they have never heard any of this great music before.

On the subject of the Triffids I was very fond of them back in my student days. I still have "Born Sandy Devotional", "Calanture" and "The Black Swan" on CD, Have not listened to these for around 10 years now - must dig them out again. Sad to hear a few years back that lead singer David McComb had passed away.

oui and non. Plastic was originally a B-side (to "Destroy the heart", methinks) but was later re-recorded and included in the "Butterfly" album.

Thanks for the great info, Green Man! I haven't heard of the Box of Birds album, another one to check out! Anyway, my fave album is "Heyday": what a classic!

How can I put this... it has a butterfly on the cover Their first offering on a major label after their ditched Creation, it was released in 1990 after a year in the recording studio... and it was the start of their downfall. A mighty album, nevertheless!

i know whats on the sleeve! i meant a cover version of the chills pink frost! (was a b side of the girl with the loneliest eyes - not sure if was on the album or not)

Duh! Sorry about the mess-up! No, the cover version is not on the album wich, was, indeed, released on Fontana/Mercury.
