BBC is currently running the whistle test years, last night was 1983 and next thursday is 1984/5, possibly showing the recording from the Hacienda. Fingers crossed but worth watching in any case

Just looked on the listings, and it says this:

"It's 1984 and 1985 this week with music from REM, Billy Bragg, Lou Reed, Sade, Cocteau Twins, Everything But the Girl, The Kane Gang, The Pogues and Suzanne Vega."

did anyone see marillion the other night? it was pure comedy.

the majority of the bands on that show are terrible and that makes it compulsive viewing for me. ive never laughed so much at a music show.

Whispering Bob can't work up any enthusiasm for anything non-prog rock. All the other stuff he introduces in his monotone voice - but for the prog-rockers (or old-blues coffin dodgers) he always wakes up and announces a 'fantastic' 10 minute piece. This week it was Marillion, last week King Crimson. No wonder Jah Wobble stuck the nut on him.

I noticed 1983 on the box this week and recorded it. However, I don't remember seeing a listing for 1982 the previous week, which surely would have featured Temptation as this was my first introduction to New Order way back then.

the whistle test..imo new orders best tv appearance.

i was lucky enough to get tickets and be at the event...so so strange seeing new order playing a full set that began about 7.00,to a hacienda that was packed to within an inch of its life. they resumed normal service later...hence the second set never kicked off till way past midnight...simply the best new order day/night of my life

Speaking of Marillion I read an interview, they do whole Marillion weekends at Butlins, they perform there too. Now that an idea!
