At Brixton I noticed he had a U.S. Confederates flag in the middle of the scratch plate of his guitar. (not the Rikkenbakker the other one he mostly uses - What make this one anybody!?)
Am I being anoracky for analyising it, or did he have the sticker just 'cos it looked good on the guitar? (which in my book is as good a reason as any)
hmmmm...maybe, just maybe, he was advertising that the order will be coming to the south of the US after they get done with the ANZAC tour (wouldn't that be just peachy)??? Or maybe he want's to be able to say y'all without any of us rednecks laughing at him. But you're probably right, he likely just thinks it's cool looking.

Do you think the supposed Fascist leanings of the band (never proven though continually talked about) have hindered their success? I imagine after about the twentith interview that asked them about "Nazi imagery" they just got tired of playing the celebrity game.

nothing could be as hideous as the Give Up But....Primal Scream album sleeve. Maybe Bobby convinced Bernard it was a good idea to represent the Confederate slave owners during the binge that created Rock The Shit (if not for slow jam, RTS would be the worst new order moment on album in my opinion). Bernard and Bobbie need to be seperated. Both collabortations sound like drug fuelled nonsense at best. At least neworder have not release an album as bad as Give Up....
Hmm, if Barney's showing sympathies for the Confederate cause, perhaps he could drag NO to Nashville and do a country and western album?......nah, that would be career suicide

Fascist leanings of the band? Remember, this is a group who did Miner's, AIDS, and Mexican Earthquake benefits back in the 80's. Oh, and also played the then-CND-monopolised Glastonbury Festival as far back as 81 (or was it 82?).
John Peel once famously refused to play ACR records and declared them as Nazis on air because someone told him ACR was the ratio of noselength to forehead used to distinguish the Jews in WWII. And then someone pointed out Don Johnson was hardly, you know, your stereotypical blue-eyed blond-haired boy.
I know new people are discovering New Order all the time, but, really, this Nazi shit was laid to rest nigh on 20 years ago, and should remain in the annals of history.

Totally agree with Jarvo. I mean, they proved well enough they're not nazis at all. Just a bit clumsy with the imagery at the time.
I still think it's just their way of telling us that they will be back in the States next year...with Dallas being the first date...just like back in '93!!!! If I could be so fooking lucky twice in my life.
To me New Order & Joy Division have always been very anti-nazi; their imagery, the album covers, their videos and not having a specific message to the public.
Good anti-nazi bands (sure there are plenty, but): to recommend that have made a parody and fun out of fascism & nazism are btw Laibach, Kraftwerk, The Residents & Throbbing Gristle.
There is btw one message I get out of New Order and that is perhaps "Be nice!" - Not that they are christians, but if you look what they've done then it's maybe The right interpretation of The Bible when you think of what they done for charity, so maybe there are some religious lyrical meanings in some of the songs after all.
