Hell no...but I just returned from Muzik magazine's site, where they've set up a poll re the above, and Blue Monday is among the contenders.
Once again, New Order come up against arch rival Missy "Get Ur Freak On" Elliott. Dubious selections from Public Enemy and Aphex Twin argue against the theory that ecstasy use has no long-term effects on the brain.
Get over to Muzik and stack the vote, people.
Sadly, as much as I lurv New Order, just glancing down this list there's lots of tracks I prefer to Blue Monday - the likes of Chime, Xpander, Papua New Guinea, Energy Flash, Planet Rock. Strange list though, when Mixmag did their list of greatest dance tracks a couple of years back Energy 52's Cafe Del Mar walked away with it, yet it's not even figured here. Looks like they've gone for crossover tracks here, as opposed to dance music as a whole.
Glad to see Rebel Without A Pause mentioned - reminded me to download this brilliant version with Herb Alpert playing behind them. Funniest record I've heard all year.
Out of that list - I voted fer BM, as much as it gets on yer tits at times, it's still a great experience to see it live, I was always critical they finished with it until my mate Darren wouldn't leave early to get back to the car because he HAD to hear it LIVE
Innovative and sampled to death by many more, a record that broke down many barriers, and led the way to some of this awful Drum n Bass shite we've got the day;)
On second look, only one group is nominated twice: Daft Punk! It follows therefore that Daft Punk is the greatest band of all time.
...though you can connect Bernard and crew to a bunch of these people: Pet Shop Boys, Primal Scream, Chemical Brothers, Felix Da Housecat, Armand Van Helden...Barney is everywhere.
actually there is a 3RD Daft Punk song under a different name. Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You
seems like a fun harmless list, most songs have aged well, not much hip hop thou. would make a fun CD set. its cool to see all these older tunes that are thought of as classics... in the USA produced "dance" music is still seen as inferior to rock bands (all of which are pretty much written and produced by one or two guys, just like rap and dance music) and personalities which they can market or put on behind the music on VH1.

Poor list though, bad choices of single for some of the acts. Inner City's Big Fun over Good Life? I'd have thought there are a dozen better Chemical Brothers tracks than Loops of Fury, don't remember it being a partiularly big hit either and some notable absences - no Underworld?
