Does anyone know if that's Gillian singing. Dawn Zee is credited for Crystal, Run Wild, and another song, but isn't mentioned for Someone Like You. I'm thinking that it's got to be Gillian then.
Someone Like You

You think right, Jason, as already stated on this board. If no one is named, then it must be someone (like you) from NO. And as Gillian is the only girl in NO...
I usually like Gillian's voice but there, I don't know. But at the same time, I'm getting more and more into SLY, so...
Yes IT IS Gillian.
Aren't you recognizing her voice?
Think of the "Can You Feel iiiiiiit" in World... or "Feeeeeeeel iiiiiiiit" in Avalanche.... well, she likes to FEEL IT allright.
Oh, Seb, you dog......
What other NO songs did GG provide backing vocals for? (I smell a whole other topic brewing here)
From memory, Gillian's NO vocal contributions include:
That 'squawk' in Everything's Gone Green
Spoken word bit in The Him
The "Hello, hello" bit in Procession
that's all that comes to mind for the time being..
BTW, a mate of mine reckons her voice is a bit like her from Everything but the Girl. Not to sure about that.

Candy, the song you are referring to is Doubts Even Here, not The Him.
Gillian provided backing vocals on numerous songs. Think of True Faith, for instance. She sings on the chorus, and that is pretty obvious on the True Dub/Alternate Faith Dub or whatever name it is called on your copy of the single.
I like her voice combined with Bernard's. I think she sounds great on Someone Like You. The track wouldn't be as good without her IMHO.
A for sounding similar to Tracey Thorne, although Gillian is a nice singer, she's not half as good as Tracey is.

Suitably chastised, Seb - Obviously Movement isn't one of my most played NO albums.
I also like Gillians voice - The Other Two stuff like The River and Tasty Fish show she has a fair set of pipes, but like you say, it's when Barn and her sing together when the best effect kicks in.

Liar, on Republic.

Liar, on Republic.
I would dispute the fact that Gillian sings any backing vocals on Republic, if at all. If my memory serves me right there are quite a few different girls credited on Republic and Gillian has gone on record as saying she`s not into singing. In fact when they started the Other Two project they actually looked around for a female singer and they were going to go with Kim Wilde at one point.
Gillian sings the female material on Republic. She isn't fond of singing but does sing when required.
Buster, she isn't singing 'Feel it' she's singing 'Free' repeatedly as a direct retort to their breaking free of the doomed Factory.
It does sound like Gillian on Someone Like Geoff Klumpy, however, none of the other Getting Things Ready tracks could be identified as her work. Glad to see its sinking into your soul Geoff... for what it's worth I liked the femal element on SLY from the kick-off and it has grown on me even more recently.

The "free" thing wasn't me, Hunstsy.
One other thing is for sure because it has been well documented at the time : it's Gillian's voice on 'Avalanche'.
ooppss sorry Buster, your right, it was Sebsy Sebastien Boisverter that said that. Thought it was uncharacteristic of your good self coming out with that anomaly, that's why I pointed it out - the Klumpster doesn't normally make gaffs.
Hey Buster, I've been reading with much excitement and interest at your music-journo life. Metting various stars around the globe has made me most envious.
Would you like me to write a review of any music as a ghost writer? - I promise to keep it sensible.

Chips and Beans.;)
Well, 2 problems with that :
- I'm not a music writer anymore...
- It's in French, although you seem very good at french... :)
Merci, mes études françaises m'ont permis de nombreuses occasions de commander savoureux les produits basés divers par casse-croûte beaucoup de fois dans d'autres pays qui ne sont pas le R-U. Nice une.

Talking about writing... It's weird. I mean, I still write for a living but when I write on this boards, as it's in English, I look like someone who can barely write/speak correctly, which can be quite frustrating at times...
Subculture is another song where backing vocals are not credited...
And True Faith, you hear her more on the dub, but she's doing the chorus with Bernard.
I'd have to argue that Niccy. Barney actually used an ultra-harmoizer which duplicated his voice on not 1, but 2 octaves above his normal range. It does sound like a girl, but its just computer trickery converting Barney's mid-range beauty into a heaven sent angel(s).

She sings 'Feel it' on Liar, and 'Free' on Avalanche :)
For the rest, her voice is easily recognisable...
She also sang backing vocals on the 98 Peel Session of True Faith. Always wondered why she only sang on one verse.
Actually, she has not a bad voice as shown on the Other Two stuff, where she sounds remarkably similar to the lead singer of Dubstar, who's name escapes me.

Here we enter into this debate again!
I have always heard "FEEL IT" in Avalanche, not "Free". Of course, I'd like to know it from the horse's mouth, but that is not about to happen... so I wonder what everyone here thinks about it: IS IT "FEEL IT" OR "FREE" ????
I mean, FEEL IT makes more sense. "Can you feel it? Can you feel how cold is an avalanche?".
I am a very funny guy too, sometimes.

Ooooooh I SO MUCH know what you mean. I usually have a lot of vocabulary in french and write well enough, and sometimes when I want to express something in english and be very precise about what I want to say, I just can't do it because the words don't come -- think of the word "récriminations" that I was telling you about last week -- so YES, it is very frustrating sometimes!
On the other hand, writing on this board is constantly helping me improving my english, but the problem is that with so many Brits here, I tend to use British expressions and I look weird when I say them when I speak with other Canadians or Americans.
See what I mean, MATE ?

Free gets my vote as well. The Male/Female vocal interplay on SLY makes the song for me. When Gillian says "Someone Like You" and Barney adds "yeah" my pace increases significantly. Awesome song!!! Better than both Crystal and 60MPH in my opinion. The remixes posted here are terrrible however.

I always thought she was singing "feel" on Anvil Ranch. Anyhow, I also hear two female voices on Run Wild, one being Dawn Zee, so I guess the other could be Gillian. The song is about her daughter after all. While were on the subject...Who is it that sings with Barney on Paradise? I should know, but I don't.
To Zico: Gillian sounds like the girl from Dubstar - actually it should be the other way round!! Sarah Blackwood - for it is she - sounds a lot like Gillian.
As for the rest of you debating Gillian's vocal contributions; I hereby have it as ABSOLUTE FACT the following songs on which Gillian's voice is REALLY featured:
Procession ("hello...hello../your heart meets you, late at night")/ Doubts Even Here / Confusion (the original 1983 version - you can hear her trill quite clearly: "Why can't you see? Why can't you see? What you mean to me?")/ The Perfect Kiss (yes really!! on the dub B-side: The Kiss of Death, where she is actually sampled sighing!!!) / Avalanche (where she sings "FAITH...." and NOT "Feel it" NOR "Freeeee.." NOR "Feel Me Up..." NOR whatever else!!!)
That's it !! Now, as regards the rest of the speculated songs: True Faith is a sneaky one - it's actually Barney backing himself in falsetto and NOT Gillian at all - listen very carefully!
Secondly, Gillian sang NO OTHER backing vocals on any of the Republic tracks : World and Liar - these are the additonal female contributors credited on the sleeve.... As for Someone Like You...nope, it isn't Gillian again either.
In fact she hardly features on this last album at all: keyboards or otherwise.
Considering this fact would go some way to explaining why she chooses to save her vocalising for The Other Two
stuff ...
Okay, I hope I've settled this heated debate once and for all. Can I go home now?

Yes,they sure do.And for my next trick....
I'm pretty sure she's singing "Faith" in Avalanche (think I read that somewhere also). A little bit of a surprise to hear on Get Ready, with all of the reviews stating that her daughter's illness excluded her from the recording sessions and she's isn't any of the publicity shots.

Methinks it is defo - 'Faith'

I'd still like to know who it is on Paradise. Is it Barney and Hooky, Barney and Steve, or just Barney and Barney?
Originally posted by Sébastien Boisvert I like the idea of Gillian saying "Feeeeeel me" in Avalanche.
You fooking pervert...but I like your way of thinking!!!!
