HMV Japan are currently knocking them out at a slightly cheaper rate than of late...£28 including shipping.

Almost affordable.

Is it still just the same tracks as the video, or any additional footage ?

Surely this is going to get a release in Europe and the US at some point? I wondered if they were going to have it as an extra on 5 11, as they did with Taras Schevchenko on 3 16, but alas not!

OKay, so what would happen if I were to buy this Japanese DVD and try to play it in my hardware or software players?

I have another DVD player installed on my PC, and that is coded to region 1 for my American DVDs. For example, I have the 'International' DVD bonus disc (presumably NTSC format?) and that plays fine on my computer.

Sorry, don't know much about video or picture formats, and am a bit lost! If I can watch and play the 'PFD' DVD, I'll probably order it, but I don't want to spend £30 on something that my players will reject!

I've got a VCD of this.Images on VCD as fantastic as DVD. Ricardo if you want a copy tell me cause a friend who lives in Campina Grande would do a copy for you of mine.

I can play region 2 DVDs, that wasn't what I was asking: What I need to know is if my PAL region 2 DVD players (hardware and software) will play Japanese region 2 NTSC DVDs, which is a different picture format?

Any ides?

Obviously it depends on your player, but I found this in the instructions for my JVC:

"This unit accomodates discs recorded with the PAL system. When a DVD or Video CD recorded with the NTSC system is played back, the unit will automatically convert it into the PAL system".

I had a look at a couple of "DVDs explained" websites, and it seems that PAL can play both PAL and NTSC (as so many DVDs are produced in America, they decided PAL players should be compatible both ways), but NTSC can't play PAL.

I think that's cleared that up! I shall order a copy from Japan in the next few days! That therefore means it'll be released cheaper, and with extra features in the UK anytime after I receive it!

Don't know much about DVD's but Muffy lent me this and it played fine on my cheap as chips 80 quid DVD player from Asda.

Wont go out of my way to get it unless im looking in somewhere like HMV or Tower and i happen to see it at a not ridiculous price.

The newer the DVD player the more likelyhood it is of being already coded as multi-region (especially cheap no brand ones) or having a software hack ability.

VCD is a pretty poor relative of DVD.

It's actually closer in quality to VHS.

Remarkably, the question isn't "will my DVD player play NTSC", it will output whatever signal is on the DVD. The question is whether your TV will accept NTSC signals and play them in colour. It's all to do with the different number of lines in the picture, PAL = 625, NTSC = 525. If it is a fairly modern TV it should be able to handle it, especially if it is a reasonable make. Hope this helps.

It happens here.Some tvs in my house we can watch it in b&w and others coloured.

The point I was making was that if you have a decent VHS copy of PFD, getting a VCD is kind of a waste of time as the quality isn't much better. DVD is light years ahead of VCD and will likely continue to be the AV medium of choice for another 3-4 years, when current experiments with red and blue laser technology result in a superior medium. Then we can all sell our vast collections of DVDs for nothing and start again!
