Had an e-mail conversation with Depthcharge earlier, and he has heard via Dennis Remmer (of Factory Discography fame) that an independant company called Outlaw23 has bought the rights to the IKON / Factory Communications Video back catalogue, so the implication is that Shorts, A Factory Complication etc may again see the light of day. http://www.screenedge.com is the website mentioned, but it's not working yet.

That would be great news if true, which seems to be more than a likely happening, seeing as how The Fall's Perverted By Language, also an Ikon release, is now out in the US (not sure who put it out, but it's available at Amazon).
Well unearthed there Old Blue, you really are like a little ferret in a field of mass-information.
Don't know whether we'll see the titles on DVD, a video reissue is all that's been mentioned thus far...

releasing the IKON material on video would be just fine. the entire point of DVD is to include loadsa extras, and with many older and more obscure and independent releases, you only get the 'woody allen' treatment, i.e. special features = language selection, credits, filmography. and that's it. a waste of the extra moolah if you ask me. i'll take the visual 8-track, thank you.
'PFD' is already out on DVD in Japan (region 2), so it's about time we got 'em over here in the UK at least!
About time there was a complete singles collection with all the videos on DVD isn't it?!

According the original Fac list e-mail (cheers dC), Outlaw23 didn't get the rights to the individual JD, NO and Durutti Column titles, so no hope of domestic DVD releases for Here Are The Young Men or PFD in the foreseeable.
However, along with the IKON rights, Outlaw23 also got an "extensive library of concert footage from The Hacienda". Now where is the smilie for salivating?
The IKON catalogue is now owned by Cherry Red - they did the Fall DVD and they say more Factory IKON DVDs are on the way. I got the Fall one online from Action Records in the UK - www.action-records.co.uk - it adds a complete live gig frm 1981 to the original video. Picture quality is a little dodgy, looks like it could have been transferred from a first or second generation VHS copy. Still bloody great though! :)
Cherry Red have also put out Cabaret Voltaire & Birthday Party DVDs. They're all multi-region (region 0), PAL.
Why do I feel like none of this will be available in my local corporate record store? :D
As long as I'd be able to get my hands on this stuff via Amazon, it'll be great...

The mighty Cabaret Voltaire recently released 'Live at the Hacienda' feturing gigs from 83 and 86 and their promos from the various IKON videos. This backsup what's been said here. The 83 footage is ropey (good sound though) the 86 gig is good though. Interestingly enough it was on the Cherry Red label.

no - whilst bonuses etc are an added feature of dvds i want them on dvd as the source will not deteriorate like video (through age, overplaying, magnetic inteference etc), there is instant scene access to go to any song & there are more sound options (stereo etc) gimme dvd anytime
