I live in manchester now and have a club membership... Not my fault that there reputation precedes them, i've been supporting them for 25 years.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a club membership? My kids are members of The Seagulls Club, which means they can go to open days and the Christmas Party and get a birthday card from the players. Is it like that?

I remember Barney coming on TFI Friday with the FA Cup, the day before United played in the final, saying how much he loved United. The guys got class!

On a more serious note, does that mean Barney is considered "celebrity" now ?

But seeing as you enquired to the nature of the membership scheme... it means you get direct priority after season ticket holders on match tickets and cup tickets, as well as discounts on merchandising and manutd tv, I cant imagine they discriminate between kids and adults for membership although i'd imagine kids membership is somewhat cheaper to encourage more youngsters to support the team.

You are obviously showing a high degree of interest, i can pick you up an application form if you wish.... ;)

My definition of a true United fan would be one who would walk to the match across Trafford Road swing bridge i.e. from Salford.

the barmaid in my local in scotland (a manc and rabid city supporter) used to spend ages telling me how anyone who considered themselves a true mancunian (i.e. born in the manchester city limits) wouldn't be caught dead supporting united. she was really vicious about it. anger perhaps at city's faltering success and united's ride at the top, or the truth? never met anyone born within the 'M' postcode myself who supports united...hmm...

This is rapidly going off topic, but wasn't a survey carried out recently by a university which showed there are more United fans than city fans in M'cr? Don't know what it cost for the survey, but, to me, it was money wasted, as it's obvious to anyone living in/ever been to Manchester, that the majority is RED.

To get NO back in the subject, I was at United v Liverpool at OT in April, and saw a banner on the front of the Stretford End, tier 2 which read: "MUFC - True Faith". Unfortunately, I was in the south stand & could not get a picture of it.

The survey was by Dr Adam Brown at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The type of remarks made by the barmaid are sadly not uncommon & has led to many United fans simply referring to City as "The Liars."

Fact is that there are more United fans in Manchester, but City have a higher proportion of their crowd (based on season ticket data) in the M postcode area.

As for the flag, there was a poll for a permanent banner to go on the Stretford End. My choice (True Faith) came second to "One Love" by the Roses. Can't have everything I suppose.
