Anyone knows about Slipstream ? They're former Spiritualized musicans, the 1st ones that were sacked at the time (not to be confused with the awful Lupine Howl).
They've had a marvellous song called 'Your Presence', which had been a single and could be a marvellous NO tune.
Do you know about them, Martin (Gray) ?
I've got that Slipstream record: you're right, it's great. Don't they do a cover of "Computer Love" as well? I seem to remember them name-dropping New Order in interviews at the time. Sorry, I like Lupine Howl as well.
Slipstream were a couple of bods in the original Spiritualized line-up back when they were the best live band in the country. Two fuzzy notes, over and over again. VERY LOUD. Retina-warping lights. No punters. Fucking hell, they were fantastic.
That new album's a big pile of overblown poo, though.

Don't agree with the last Spiritualized album. I think it's fucking beautiful, especially the magnificent 'Stop Your Crying'.
They played Belgium 2 days ago and I still have a deaf her. Loudest gig I saw them play till today...
I saw Lupine Howl supporting The Beta Band and it truly was unbearable. Don't know about the album though.
Sorry, Geoff, but "Stop Your Crying" is/was a depressingly transparent attempt to have a big hit single. Very sad, for all the wrong reasons. You know something's wrong when mid-afternoon R1 DJs starting gushing over it. Commercial success is fine - and God knows, Pierce deserves it - but that record was aural tosh of the worst order. The lp has a coupla winners, but its just so OTT and contrived.
He's been doing the whole gospel-narcosis thing since Spacemen 3, and he's always done it bloody well. He really doesn't need 100-piece gospel choirs from New Orleans.
"Let It Come Down"? All effect, no affect. Dig out your copy of "Lazer Guided Melodies" instead.

I've listened to LGM a few days ago. Still great of course, especially the 2 opening tracks.
But I don't agree with you on the rest. The true genius of Jason Pierce is that, the bigger the music goes, with choirs and orchestra, the more the he sounds fragile in his beautiful sadness.
Otherwise, it would probably sound overblown but, this way, I think it plays out to marvellous effect, as on the closing track, the ol'Spacemen 3 'Lord Can You Hear Me ?'
Ah yes; trouble with that is, "LCYHM" is the best song on the album. It's 12 years old. Ho hum.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Personally, I think the more grandiose it gets, the more cocaine he sounds like he's got up his snout. "Lazer Guided..." is beautifully understated. I've heard good things about the current live show, though; I didn't catch 'em this time round cos the last half-dozen times I've seen 'em the gig's been ruined by yabbering student gobshites who can't shut the fuck up for 90 minutes of their worthless lives.
Did see them at the Hacienda in summer 97; think this may have been the last gig ever at the Hac. This one was ruined by the usual shite acoustics, yabbering Oasis-alikes, and that bloody window in the roof which muted the usual dazzling lights. Bugger.

I think 'Stop Your Crying' sounds like something I don't remember the title of but it goes...'Ooh baby,baby, it's a wild world. Hard to get by just on a smile girl'. actually I think it's called 'Wild World' not sure who it's by though, seem to recall a reggae light feel to it.
