Hey, maybe this is old news but isn't there a resemblance on the art at the link below to the Thieves Like Us cover? I read Peter saville took his inspiration for the TLU numbers from a piece in Blair Castle, Pitlochry but this painting looks similar in many ways - coloration, style, building featured etc. As I say, maybe old news but interesting anyway.

The numbers in the TLU sleeve have nothing to do with the picture itself, wich is a Saville/Trevor Key "appropriation" of a Giorgio de Chirico painting, wich ISN'T the one on the link. Check out Monsieur Saville's book for more info (I will when I get home :D )

The numbers on the sleeve were inspired by an extremely old board game Saville saw at Blair Castle. Conspiracy theorists immediately jumped on the fact that Thieves was their seventh single and that was why there no number 7 on the sleeve. Saville said that the thought hadn't even entered his head, and I'm pretty sure Thieves was their sixth single?

Correct on the Blair Castle info, Clive! As for TLU being NO's 6th single, well...

Ceremony Procession EGG Temptation BM Confusion TLU

If we count procession as a single on its own (wich it is!), then TLU was in fact NO's seventh single...

Yes, that's why I phrased it as a question. It's open to argument. Does EGG count? A Benelux release...had already been on the b-side of Procession...

Does the Substance tracklisting give us any clues as to how the band view things ?

There isn't many really "original" Saville artwork, they are all modified from something else...

Many are taken from scuptures and paintings already existing..

And of course, there are some 100% Saville...!
