Apologies if this is common knowledge, but I wasn't aware of it before today...
If you watch the bit in the film 'Alien' where the ship is landing on the planet to investigate the distress call, there's a representation of the planet's landscape on the computer screens. Look carefully at that representation and you'll see that it's the same design as Peter Saville used for Unknown Pleasures!

But still doesnt make out that it Alien (in all its various sequels and incarniations) is a classic example of diabolical film making...
I remember being slightly freaked out by that when I first saw it. Knowing that Giger is a music dude, I wonder was it a conscious nod at his instigation?
Incredibly enough, I think it's likely that it's a complete coincidence. Alien was released in summer/autumn '79 over here - I'm pretty sure it was at least...I definitely remember being at that age where I was too old to get a child's fare on the bus and too young to get in to see it, though of course I did both! That would mean that both were unleashed on the public at around the same time so I think it has to be a pure coincidence! Maybe Barney just read the same astronomy books as Giger...
