Just read this message on the Factory mailing list & got my interest. It's written in response to a question about what appears on the Western Works Demo and then moves onto a brief overview of NO before Gillian joined. Thought it might be worth sharing.

The tracks were Dreams Never End, Ceremony, Truth and Homage. Hooky sings DNE (as ever); Barney sings Homage and Truth, All three sing parts of Ceremony (Barney the verse, Hooky the first Chorus, Steve the second chorus). 3-piece NO spread the vocals around a lot - live you also got Hooky singing Mesh, and Hooky & Steve singing Cries & Whispers (Hooky the verse, Steve the chorus). The 3-piece line-up only ever performed seven songs - the other being a drum machine version of In a lonely place (with Barney on vocals).
The 3-piece line-up only played 7 gigs:
29 JUL 80 Manchester Beach Club (supporting ACR & Action Holidays) 04 SEP 80 Liverpool Bradys (formerly Eric's - supporting Skafish) 05 SEP 80 Blackpool Scamps (supporting Tunnelvision & Section 25) 21 SEP 80 Maxwell's Hoboken, New Jersey 27 SEP 80 Hurrah's New York 28 SEP 80 Pier 3 New York 30 SEP 80 The Underground Boston
All the US gigs were with ACR
Note - the published gigography on the 'water rat' site is inaccurate re the 4/9/80 gig. And the band weren't billed as "the No-Names" at the Beach club. They weren't billed at all, and plated as a late replacement for The Names, who didn't turn up.
