check this out, Closer Gold Disc for sale.
my question must sound stupid but i just don´t know the answer. gold discs can be played? i mean, do they have music?
i´ve always had this doubt but nobody could ever answer me. ![]()
these discs are in no way official BPI ones you know, the real thing would be worth a vast amount and would be dedicated to an individual or company. these are just display items manufactured recently by these people : http://www.ukmusicawards.co.uk/index.html http://www.ukmusicawards.co.uk/goldlps.html
it seems so. is mr. sultan going to fall on this one?
btw, what happens if i play a gold record? i hear music or what?
i think nobody really knows... ![]()
1.Find a scratched up vinyly copy of Closer.
2.Carefully soak off the label.
3.But gold spray paint and give min. 3 coats.
4.Hang to dry using hole in the middle.
5.Using kid's glue, re-apply label on side to be displayed.
6.Buy metal edged frame.
7.Frame fake disc behind glass.
8.Sell to mug on Ebay for lots of money, with no-refund policy.

BTW, those are not official since Factory has never been registered with the association that give the awards... (like the RIAA in the US)
Mr Wilson did some by himself, at least for Blue Monday, so if there are some around, they are custom made
This guy only sells Gold/Platinum Discs by the look of it - either he works for a record company or is on the blag !

ON THE BLAG i would think.
I have lots of em that say....
TO ROCKET MICK for spending all his cash on numerous copies of said record.
SAD really.![]()
According to the British Phonographic Industry website (http://www.bpi.co.uk) Closer was never awarded a gold disc....
To be fair, the description doesn't say that it is any way "official". Also the label doesn't say who the award was presented by or for how many sales, so you'd have to be some sort of mug to want to pay three figures for it.

when they made the official gold discs they would coat a record in gold (paint? leaf? not sure what they used) but it wasnt necessarily the record the award was for so chances are you would be able to play an official one, but you would hear a completely different album!
as for this one - who knows.
THESE AWARDS ARE PROFESSIONALLY MADE TO THE SAME HIGH STANDARD AS THOSE PRESENTED BY THE B.P.I.
WE USE ORIGINAL U.K. RECORDS ONLY. THESE AWARDS ARE INDIVIDUALLY CRAFTED AND LIMITED TO BETWEEN 1 and 10 OF EACH PRESENTATION ALL AWARDS ARE GLAZED WITH GLASS
What a cheap fake, IMHO. Never would spent any money on this sort of crap.
........................................... BTW masaaki plz give me your new e-mail-addy.

as for this one - who knows. laugh at me if you want but i really though gold albums were made of some metal (not gold of course). if they paint them in gold then the sound quality would be poor, as in picture discs.
Almanso, I don't know the answer to your question about whether they can be played or not, but I have heard the tale of when the Beatles received their first gold record, they took it home and played it and....it was a Rolling Stones LP....don't know whether it's true but I have read it so who knows what the Closer LP could be?
