There you go then...........your last sentence more or less backs up what I said about the Smiths being just the right band that happened to be there just at the right time.......they were the perfect band to have as an antidote to all those vapid synthetic overdressed plastic gonks that were littering the UK pop charts at the time....they served their time and purpose well in so doing, but now....in 2001.....just how relevant is that type of jangly -pop stuff?

Arriving on this thread verrrry late, it's difficult to know where to start.

I agree with Martin on most of things. I must add that, being not an English speaking person, I don't care as much for the lyrics. So I've often found Moz's voice boring in the end. Always preferred the Johnny, best guitarist ever. I mean, to be so gifted and not giving to the solos clichés...

But I really love 'Vauxhall and I', immense album, and I also love Morrissey's cover of 'Moon River.

I saw him, for work, at the Brixton Academy (Marion was the support band, by the way) and 'National Front Disco' ended in full white noise delirium.

You thought 'ok, that's the end of the set, typical, let's go to the encores' but then, in the midst of all this noise, comes acoustic guitar notes and the noises morphes into 'Moon River'.

Fucking beautiful...

By the way, Martin, would you, by any chance, be with me on 'Brotherhood' (my fave NO album) and say it's a very underrated album ?

Why Geoffroy!......BUT OF COURSE......OF COURSE!!! DIDN'T YOU READ MY POST ON THE "TOP THREE ALL-TIME NEW ORDER SONGS AND LPS"??? I've put "Brotherhood" right up there at the top!!!!!! "Brotherhood" IS a fantastic LP, and YES, it WAS massively underrated, and YES, it criminally undersold in UK too (well, it was New Order's least successful charting album in B ritain, until this year's spectacular flop that was "Get Ready" of course - he says, overstating the fact over and over again) Just listen to some of those songs! Any LP that has the twin crowning peaks of "Bizarre Love Triangle" followed swiftly by "All Day Long" has to be up there with the work of the Gods. (and whilst you're there, thrown in "Paradise", "Weirdo","As It Is When It Was", and the beginning and end of "Every Little Counts") The "Technique" LP was, basically, a more refined - and successful - version of this LP, with EXACTLY the same ratio of guitar/electronic songs: 5/4. Has anyone else noticed that? You may have incorrectly stated in the past that we tend to disagree on a lot of things, but I disagree with that! We agreed on many things: amongst many issues, for instance, both being massive fans of the Boo Radleys (to the extent that both of us were very sad when they split!) , The Field Mice, Pale Saints, phew!.....how many more did we agree on, huh?
So the shared love of "Brotherhood" obviously says a lot about our musical preferences.....!!

The game was on a knife edge, only 5 minutes to go, Hook found himself in the penalty area, about to score, then from nowhere Joyce takes him down. Penalty to New Order. Hooky steps up...GOOAAALLLL. HOOKY jumps into the crowd. New Order 2-1. With only seconds remaining, Phil glides the ball through Moz's quiff, the ball lands at Barney's feet, he nutmeggs Marr and lifts the ball cooly over Rourke, It's all over New Order 3 The Smiths 1So basically The Smiths were good, but no match forNEW ORDER;)

Welcome to The Smiths-related thread Hugh! Wow, that was impressive - and very witty! I reckon you should use that for an idea for a thread - suggest a narrative or commentary involving New Order/Monaco/ Electronic/Other Two/Revenge song titles - see how far - and how ridiculous - everything will get!! GO!!

....in fact, Geoffroy, you might be pleasantly surprised to find in that thread that we both nominated THE SAME THREE NEW ORDER ALBUMS!!!

Martin, I think you misinterpretated me. I know that we share a lot of musical tastes, that's whay I asked you about 'Brotherhood', to see if we agreed on that one too.

The 2 major things we don't agree on are : the 'Barney live' case and, that resolution of the brain teaser...

Oh, there was a time I really loved Siouxsie but I don't really listen to those records nowadays.

Oh, btw Martin, you're not into 'Way Of Life' then ? Because it's one of my all time favorites...
