SONG REVIEW: Some Distant Memory

I feel it is obligatory if not highly necessary for me to ask everyone what they think of this darling track. ;)

I've always loved SDM (no, not being a narcissist here ). Another sad song about perhaps unrequited love or just having grown apart.

See that girl, she's over there... I don't need her, she don't care... I could be one in a million... It would be so good to start again

The beautiful blend of bells, beats, oboes, synths, guitars, and sparse yet lush lyrics make this, to me, a timeless classic in Electronic's discography (arguably their best Electronic track), and IMO one of Barney's best songs ever, period! I don't find any dislikes to this song. I just wish there was an even longer version than the 4:10 album version. Or maybe not. This is perfection - so why tinker with perfection?

10/10 (but if I could rate it a 15, I would)

I really love this track as well especially the singing but it's just those lines you mentioned (see that girl she's over there I don't ....) that spoil the song just a little bit for me. IMO Bernard should have comen up with more meaningful lyrics to such an otherwise quite beautiful song.

There´s some strange atmosphere in Electronic I that i dont like anymore. But the lyrics are special, also this track.

yes, one of their best, songs, which IMHO, grown so cool with time also. the tightness of the bassline with the drums is just fantastic, and Barnys voice is a killer.

quite simply, their best song. although the lyrics are WFTSCish, the music is a touch of perfection.

Without a doubt, my favourite electronic song. The vocals sound lazily great (think of 808 State 'Spanish Eyes'!) and that oboe sends shivers down my spine 15 years on.

I also love the long instrumental endings like in Perfect Kiss and I think there's a good 2 mins at the end of Some Distant Memory.

The bell refrains at the end of the chorus are the best part.

One of the best songs of all time...

I was 18 when this was out..this was always my favourite song. I was in the middle of a very seriuos relationship with a girl called Steph..well it felt seriuos at the time......the song reminded me of her even when I was with her: the oboe bit made shivers go up my spine and all the hairs on my neck stand out. We split up once after a year, and when she heard this song she came back to me.

15 years later..that song still makes the hairs stand up, it takes me right back to 1991, when everthing was so much more straight forward.

I've just left a message on another subject re. Tighten Up about Feel Every Beat. I talk about listening to the album on a Welsh bird's Walkman in Magaluff.

Beautiful memories, beautiful song. I love this tune and I'll love it til the day I die. Electronic at their zenith.

My absolute favourite Electronic song. I remember hearing it on the radio first; I had a bootleg tape of the album which omitted SDM (crime!!!) and heard it on the radio and was completely blown away. Only when I bought the CD three or four years later have I found out what that song was. BTW, my #2 favourite Electronic song is an instrumental b-side, Lean to the inside :)

Classic song.Love it.First heard it on Radio 1 when Mark Goodier was interviewing Barney pre the album's release.He faded it out at what i thought was the end of the song.Then when i bought the cd there was this simply beautiful end section with the oboe.A wonderful surprise.Goose pimples.

It's a beautiful track. Someone mentioned b-sides? I absolutely love "Free Will (extended)". It's totally kicks ass. Especially the chords at the end and the way it stops then comes back in. Just class!
