Who thinks Potsy sounds like Barney? I don't. Who came up with that?

He sounds like Barney's younger runt brother.

He's trying to sound like Barney indeed. Why?

Sounds like a young (& in tune!) Bernard to me:evil4:

It's "Pottsy" actually not "Potsy".

I observed alot of sniping from New Order fans when Monaco brought out "Music for pleasure" in '97 who thought Pottsy sounded too much like Barney. Alot of it was pointless and you'd think they'd have been pleased at such a cool New Order sounding record emerging at a time when NO themselves looked like they were gone for good! :nonono: It simply boils down to Pottsy and Barney coming from similar parts of the Manchester area and so sing in a similar accent. Pottsy's voice is much higher than Barney's and is in key most of the time! :evil4:

There was an article in the NME in early '98 where Barney was quoted as saying (about Monaco) "They sound like me! I don't know whether to be flattered or annoyed" but it later emerged he was misquoted quite badly and was joking. Also, Pottsy and Barney met up a good number of times when New Order reformed in 1998 and enthusiastically chatted about guitars and music. There is zero animosity between them, it would be silly if there was any really!

Well wouldnt matter how bad I accidently mispell it. As far as I am concerned, it could be Pothead.

Yeah, but in all seriousness, there are similarities and I'm sure Hooky was ecstatic Pottsy sounded like Barney to help sell Monaco records and may even modeled himself off him, but it is probably more of a geographic link than anything else.

I think Hooky planned it that way..He lives for New order:nod:

When I first heard What Do You Want From Me, I seriously thought it was New Order.

That would have been a GREAT comeback single..

I wonder if New Order could, integrate some side-project songs into their set, this one would be a natural.

In fact, anything Monaco did could be a New Order song, because it has all the elements... and Pottsy sings in the same tune as Bernard Sumner.

This isn't true with Electronic though... you can't plug Hooky easily on any tracks ;)
