absolute favorite side project song

What do you want from me? really. It's perfect pop that most bands would sandpaper their eyeballs to be able to write. Aside from that, Music for pleasure and the first Electronic album generally contain the side projects finest moments in my book ;) The first Electronic album is on par with alot of great New Order material, as is MFP.
Phileas Fogg wrote: This one's a no-brainer: "Out Of Control" from Electronics
That was Chemical Bro.s + Barney, not Electronic...
Worked out what my fave is - it's
'LATE AT NIGHT' - ELECTRONIC (off the twisted tenderness LP).
WDYWFM got some amazing bass riffs and Get the Message looks so different or unique to me anyway. So thats my choices
Probably Junk. Great nine minute song. Also What Do You Wany From Me? Pretty much for the reasons that Ally said, but it is the epitome of the perfect pop song. Also have to give a mention to Idiot Country, theres just somthing about it.
I can narrow it down to five, but even thats a squeeze man..
Forbidden City
Shine
For You
Selfish
Kashmire/I've got a feeling...Ok six then!..Yup ,I like alot of side project stuff, some standout stuff..but long live new Order as a (almost ) whole,at their divine best IMO![]()
Idiot Country- Electronic The Patience of a Saint- Electronic Getting Away with It- Electronic Freefall- Electronic Reality- Electronic Try all you want- Electronic Until the end of time- Electronic How Long- Electronic Disappointed- Electronic
disappointed. by a MILE. it's practically perfect in every way. hell, i'd marry it if i could.

I too would pick Junk, with Idiot Country a strong contender (along with Gangster).
I can't choose between Twisted Tenderness or What Do You Want From Me..... two great perfect pop songs. Second Nature is still a favorite too.
electronic - idiot country monaco - what do you want from me revenge - big bang other two - selfish

Me three!
Junk is on just about every CD mix compilation I ever make. It just seems to fit everywhere.
And the two b-sides, Ultra & Shattered do it for me as well.

Marr's brilliance, i feel is missing a lot of time in electronic, but here he shines brighty. He makes a difficult song sound so easy.
It also displays great songwriting by barney. ITs hard to be cleaver, witty, and funny at the same time but he def. accomplishes it in this song.

Have you listened to Monaco, Jonathan? Particularly the first album? I've been listening to it a lot lately, and it's really very good.

I guess the relationship is that until recently, I would have said that Electronic was unquestionably the best of the side projects, but I've recently begun to think that Monaco was very good as well.
leeharveyoswaldR.I.P.1963 wrote: who do you like better revenge or monaco?
Monaco, without a doubt.
Shine, fantastic bass, vocals as near to barney as you can get, at a time when NO were awol this was as good as it got.
Phileas Fogg wrote: Out Of Controooooooool, Out Of Control !
Hey, that's still not a side-project choon...it's still The Chemical Brothers...
Now, answering the question that's posed...I like Disappointed the most...closely followed by What Do You Want From Me....

I was thinking about it the other day too. I always knew that Monaco was a great band but it's only recently that I've begun to think that their first album is probably the best of the side projects. I've been listening to it a lot lately with Kashmere always on repeat. :)
King of Nothing wrote: Disappointed seconded. What a great pop song
And there was me thinking that "How long" was your favourite one. Sounded pretty good though when we sang it in the rain walking along the streets of London. But I must admit that I'm slightly disappointed that of all those nice tunes you had to pick the one with Neil Tennant on vocals. Of course, it's the best thing Pet Shop Boys have ever done. :D
Playing "How long" now in your honor! ![]()

Well, How Long is my OTHER favourite!
I can't remember if I said it was my favourite on RTP or of all Electronic songs. I think I mentioned i like Gangster too.
Yes, that moment you mentioned was truly one of the highlights of that weekend in London. I need to play this song too now in YOUR honour!

Trust me, if I had died yesterday I wouldn't have had an idea about it. Today I discovered just how intelligent I really am to turn the bloody sound on.
Nice tune, by the way.

Glad you liked it!:)
Mine are:
Sweet Lips - Monaco Dark Angel - Electronic Idiot Country - Electronic Forbidden City - Electronic Junk - Monaco
"Get the message" - Electronic I love it! Marr's guitar makes it sound unique, Barney's voice is just perfect for the song! Love the lyrics, too!
Getting away with it and also (i think it featured steven and gillian), Optimism by Life (fac122) ![]()
Three way tie from Monaco:
- Happy Jack
- Blue
- Shine
I always head for these three songs first whenever I play Music for pleasure :) _

Sorry it's a bit unrelated but i-tunes have the rather excellent superhighways by the other two avaliable for download @ the ripping price of only £7.99, i personally have been looking for this for so long and it has been well worth the wait, any NO fan worth their salt should buy this you won't be dissapointed !!
Electronic's 1st album (if it wasn't for the bass missing, you could swore that it's 'Technique' follow up really, darn Excellent !!) and 'Pineaple Face' + 'What do you want from me' from Hooky.
Couldnae pick 1, Electronic by far are my favourite, but over time I've learnt to appreciate the others more and more.
At this moment in time....
Pineapple Face 7" - Revenge Tasty Fish 7" - TO2 Feel Every Beat 12" Remix Shine 7" - Monaco
Pineapple Face.
I hear it new year's day whatever year that was and new right away it was New Order or Peter Hook or something. Still my fav b/c it's cool and it so made my new year.
GET THE MESSAGE
The 7" Remix is even better than the album version.
Totally unique sound - can't think of any other track which sounds remotely like this.

It IS briliant,I actuall prefer it to their first.Just a shame it got no fcuking publicity.
To single out a favourite side project song..can't get past the ist Electronic album,'cause they're all brilliant,so I'm going to plump for IDIOT COUNTRY.It's everything that was great about Technique, and more.

I really like most electronic and monaco's material. The Other Two and Revenge had their moments too. I think my all time favorite side project song is "Jesus.. I Love You" by Revenge. It's pretty fucking massive. It might have been my most played 12" in 1990. 7 Reasons was the b-side. I also thought that was fantastic. Wow! thinking back to those days...first year of college...i'm so fucking old! ![]()
I think its a tie between "Getting away with it" and The Other Two "Feel This Love". Would love to have done a dance remix of the latter song, a very emotional song for me!
Electronic - Gangster Electronic - One Day Electronic - Twisted Tenderness
Monaco - Junk Monaco - Sweet Lips Monaco - See-Saw
The Other Two - Tasty Fish The Other Two - Selfish
Church of the KLF wrote: The Other Two and Getting Away With It are both superb, but my vote goes to the former.
Did I say "The Other Two" as a song title? Criminy. I meant "Tasty Fish". ![]()
Electronic: Try All You Want Electronic: Getting Away With It (Incidentally, does anyone else notice how similar GAWI is to the Psychedelic Furs' "Love My Way"? :D )
The Other Two: Tasty Fish
Phileas Fogg wrote: This one's a no-brainer: "Out Of Control" from Electronics
OUT OF CONTROL is by THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS feat BERNARND SUMNER
Electronic:
Some Distant Memory Gangster Vivid
Revenge:
State Of Shock (Full-length 12" mix) Deadbeat Pineapple Face
The Other Two:
The Grave New Horizons Cold Feet
Monaco:
What Do You Want From Me? I've Got A Feeling Under The Stars
Had to listen to some Revenge and OT stuff to decide on faves, it's been so long since I've heard them!
Jury's still out on Revenge, but I'll go with
The Grave Loved It Tasty Fish Hello
for The Other Two... Listening to Super Highways in the car this morning... Forgotten what a good album it is/was...

Cool. I'll have to check that out on i-tunes. It would cost me over $30 to buy the CD here as an import. Thanks for the tips.
Electronic: "Disappointed" Revenge: "Slave" Monaco: toss-up between "Junk" and "Sweet Lips" The Other Two: toss-up between "Super Highways" and "Weird Woman" Other: Chemical Brothers' "Out Of Control"
When Get Ready came out I didn't like it at all - it just wasn't the album I wanted to hear from NO at that time - so I put together my own album using a couple of songs from that, one of the B-sides, "Out Of Control", and tacks from Monaco, Music For Pleasure, Twisted Tenderness, a Raise The Pressure B-side, and Super Highways. That was what I wanted to hear.
Electronic - Disappointed Revenge - Pineapple face The Other Two- Tasty fish Monaco - What do you want from me
Revenge; Pineapple face
Monaco; What do you want from me
THe OtherTwo;Selfish
Electronic;Forbidden city
I think!
- The Other Two - Tasty Fish
- Electronic - Getting Away With It
- The Other Two - Selfish
- Chemical Brothers - Out Of Control
- Monaco - WDYWFM
- Revenge - Pineapple Face
- Monaco - Sweet Lips
Get the Message Electronic Getting away with it Electronic Vivid Electronic Breakdown Electronic Freefall Electronic
If it's a bit skewed it's because I've really only heard Hooks solo singles, no album stuff. And, call me narrow minded, but I can't be arsed to dig all his stuff out now.:(
