Selfish - The Other Two

Any good?

I thought it was ok...especially at the time it was released, when we were yearning for NO product. Have to admit, though, that I've not listened to it in several years. As w/ all NO side-projects, its missing some the elements that make up NO.

It is one of the best tracks on the 1st album, but it may be lacking a little something alright - more a quality album track than a single really. I think 'Innocence' 'Tasty Fish' 'Feel this Love' & 'Movin' On' are better tracks.

Not the best song on the album, but pretty good - 7/10.

In many ways The Other Two is the best NO spin-off. The first Electronic recd is probably the the best *record* by a NO side project, but after that Barney and JM seemed to run out of ideas and simply become New Order with something missing.

Gill and Steve really step out and make their own sound, distinct and separate from New Order. I'd say that TOTAY is my favourite of the two albums, some great songs and lovely hooks throughout. For example, the way that The Greatest Thing gently builds tension up to the first chorus, just up to the point where it feels a bit *too* linear, then releases it (around 1.45) with 'The says the strangest things'. That little melody under the vocals in the chorus is superb too. Selfish - oh my!! How I flipping love this song. The plain lyrical style (Someone I hate/she thinks she's great/and loves to state/the obvious)has the feel of an overheard pub conversation - that it is exactly what someone might *say* makes for a refreshing change from Barney's clunkiness. Little details, like the way the 'No sense of reason' hook is played instrumentally the first time around (on 1 minute) just make this track so magnificent.

Ninth Configuration - the sound of a thousand Saturday nights. They're all good : Spirit Level. Tasty Fish. Innocence - more Northern verite (Don't come here to clean up your conscience) and *that* ringing synth line at the end of the chorus.

Actually I love this album.

My absolute favourite OT song - I think the melody to this song is beautiful - the whole 'no sense of raeson, why did you have to believe them' (if the lyrics are wrong I apologise) hook is very... pretty is a dodgy word but it is. Just, love it. This is played the most off all the OT music, perfect for every mood and just ... really, really good.

I really like Loved It, basically just a great drum and bass (is that bass?) jam with snippets of snappy dialogue and quotable quotes - very interesting indeed. Innocence is also very nice and the lyrics do tell a very interesting story. I hate to use the word pretty but I think it applies here for all these songs, particularly the vocals in Movin' On "saw the sun, up in the sky' etc is a very beautiful line in an engligh accent. Destictly feminine vocals are always coming from Gillian, which really add to all these songs. Night voice is also very atmospheric, as are all these tracks.

Tasty fish is quite poppy and fun, particularly with the addition of those keyboards, which may have dated a bit, though not as much as electronics stuff, which has dated very poorly, I think. But a very catchy and enjoyable song, I adore 'I dont know where - could be anywhere'. A really enjoyable song.

I used to really be into Selfish (That Pop Mix) - if you can get the US CD Single with Moby's Waterfront Mix of 'Movin' On', I'd highly recommend it. The bass on that remix is great and the Selfish mixes are class.

But (That Pop Mix) is classic to me. I love it. It's cute.

The song Selfish reminds me of a girl that once knew! It's an ok song, but I was never selfish.

Selfish is a great thundering synth track, but not a patch on Tasty Fish. You had to be in the Ashton Hotel (later demolished for the Arcades) in Ashton-under-Lyne back in the early-90s to know how good TF really was!

The album version was great-sounded like Dubstar though! But those awful remixes...

I loved Selfish back in the day.

Anyone else notice a recurring "fish" theme running through that first album?

I won't even try to hide the fact that the Other Two are my favorite side project. Loved this single, loved the album, loved the next album. I really enjoy Gillian's voice, thought their production on this was great and it's one of my top "happy" records.

I also thought the video was adorable. Yeah, alright, I'm gushing over them. Can't help it, totally enjoy them as a duo.

The sort of song one catches themselves singing in the shower.

Not all that to be honest, guess it can sound alright from time to time. Tasty Fish all the way though.

I think Selfish is an excellent song and I actually think The Other Two & You may be my second favorite NO side project album, after Raise The Pressure.
