Apparently they are writing the music for the new Robbie Coltrane series of Cracker which is currently being filmed in Manchester. Heard this on Revolution Radio at lunchtime today when Stephen and Gillian had popped into the radio studio and were plugging their first ever show on Revolution which is at 4.00pm on Sunday 15th January for three hours.

Revolution is based in Oldham ( Owl Dom for Jack_H, gettit?)96.1 I think.

Coltrane himself actually asked them to write the music for the series so he must be a fan of the Other Two.

Actually saw Coltrane while staying at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester just before Chistmas. He had come down for breakfast just as we were leaving the dining room. He was still eating breakfast when we checked out 2 hours later. He's a bit fat.

After playing TF the dj mentioned that S&G will be doing that show 4-7 next sunday, 'as a warm up to next sunday when Andy Rourke will be joining' the station as the sunday DJ.

Go, Stephen and Gillian! She must bbe getting bored at home - watching her band tour around the country you'd get a bit restless.

Probably wont get that series over here - maybe in about 2010 it might be shown at midnight on the ABC.

The only good thing the other two have ever done is manage to make revenge sound good. Let's get this solo project business sorted out once and foir all. Buy 'Electronic' then 'Music for Pleasure' and fuck the rest. My facourite spin-off band is New Order, a popular Joy Division offshoot.

What about the next video of the other two ?I liked very much " Someone like you",unfortunatley King Kong was more strong than the rose.:nonono:

Top program.

Laughed at Stephens comment that British Sea Power had 'fallen out of favour with NO fans - I dont know why but I like 'em'.

After going to the trouble of finding the link (& posting it here, & adding it to my faves), I never got to hear any of the show - 3 hours long & I missed ALL of it:banghead:

Conrad - you didn't miss too much. They didn't talk alot - just played some good music that you've probably heard before.

Highlights of chat included

  • Importance of being ernest - dedicated to 'tilly and grace'
  • The above British sea power comment
  • Playing a song from the o brother where out thou soundtrack (the down to the river to pray one) and Steve recommending the film
  • Steve wondering how his 6 yr old daughter Grace has taken a liking to brian eno (or whatever) and playing Bliss on her request _ If I recall, Gillian requested Plug in Baby by Muse and Hey Ya by Outkast Steve played Substitute by the Who and some band which Gillian said only drummers would enjoy

Can you elaborate? Did I say I was bored somewhere or something?

Whats the US meaning of the word cracker anyway? You've got me wondering now. Its not just a good looking person is it or someone who does crack or is it something a lot more devious?

A cracker is typically a white person from the south, like Alabama or Mississippi, and is a bit of a racist, backwards freak.

Evereyone must be proud about his culture and the colour of his skin,i'm a white race and proud,in the past racism mean against all blacks but actually the deal changed ,it means fight the white people to win much money , and i m sure it's not an April fish or a Belgian story, only one way to one god .

So was my great-grandmother's. Guess they stopped giving names like that when the connotations changed.

Embarassing names aside, I think it's really good news that Gillian is making music again.

Clearly you are destined for a glittering career in the box ticking department of a politically correct labour controlled council. You even pointed out to me my right of appeal to a higher authority! As if I could really be arsed.

Whatever you say, I was just trying to explain why it had happened. How was I supposed to know you couldn't "really be arsed" whether it was moved back or not? You were obviously arsed enough to post about it  I was just trying to be polite by telling you how to reverse the move if you were interested. As for all this "New Labour box ticker" stuff

You can bury this thread wherever you want and if it avoids being a platform for crackers like some of the contributors to this thread, then the deeper the better.

Personally, I couldn't really give a toss whether the thread stays or goes but for the sake of letting fans know what Steve and Gillian are up to it should probably stay. I know there are regulars on this forum who are interested in Steve and Gillian's music and might find what you originally posted interesting. Or is that one too many boxes I've ticked there?

D'oh just can't help meself

You two crack me up

No problem there then Alistair. I appreciate your politeness and quiet dignity. Belligerence must have got the better of me for a while. I must have had a hard day up against the box tickers of the world which caused that tantrum of screaming invective. Carry on with the censorship.

Well I'm interestyed in what s and g are up to with the other two. I don't care where the tyhread is. It's only a click away.

Yeah, its not as if one forum is 'more important' than any others - this is news about a NO 'spin off', so it makes sense to have it in this forum - AND on the front page:thumb:

article on that topic

So it seems The Other Two will produce new material for real ;)

I also believe this thread should be in the general forum until it "dies", then it should be moved here for reference. By that I mean as long as it's on the first page. I hesitated when Ally asked me to move it because I knew less people would see it...

Not enough people visit this forum to be honest, so people are bound to open new threads about this...

It would be wonderful if I'd do "dual forum threads" sometimes ;)

But for me, it's not different than talking about a Hooky DJ set, that IS also "off-topic" if you want.

Thanks for the link Nick:thumb:

According to that, it was the writer - McGovern - rather than Coltrane who asked them to do the music.

Fingers crossed this might persuade them to do another album

Thanks for the support Spotto! I'll lend you one of mine next time. It clearly wasnt Coltrane who asked Stephen and Gillian to do the music. Blame me. I'm a crap reporter...although I did work Saturday afternoons at the Manchester Evening News for 3 years.

Is that photo' an old one or a really recent one?

Either way Gillian looks good. Stephen's not to bad either (If you're that way inclined)

No problem... I can see the concern, but there is so few action in the main forum lately, we need all we can get ;)

But Ally did have a point, this should normally be posted on the side-project forum... but I had mixed feelings at first, but if we want this forum to work, it's the only way to do it.

So don't panic if you see this thread moved back soon ;) I do enjoy having all "news" in this forum though, so this is why I had mixed feelings.

Excellent news...! I just hope the soundtrack is released eventually...

Can't wait, personally.

I wonder if Gillian has been tinkering with music for the past few years. I appreciate that bringing up children is a full-time job, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that she and Stephen have got the laptops out once or twice for some hardcore Protools and Logic 7 action...

that's cool to hear -- although it will take about 2 or 3 years for it to cross the ocean... oh well, patience is a virtue, sometimes.
