Cracker on Oz TV

Aussie folks,

I have seen Cracker advertised as reurning soon - I dont know if this is the series that Steve and Gillian soundtracked but it is the same show and i think its only in its second series. Should be starting in the next couple of weeks.

Pretty sure I have seen more than one series here.

What channel?

Have just checked a few sites and it seems we have had at least three series here as Jimmy commits suicide in the third series (after raping Penhaligan)and I remember watching that.

I have no doubt that you are right - I have never watched it before and was working off a previous assumption!

I can remember seeing Cracker on T.V. in Oz about ten years ago, but very little since then (then again I've been living in China for two years!). One station ran the American remake which kinda fell flat, but I did see a box set of it in a fake DVD market here. Typical; copy the crap but not the good stuff Would be nice to see some reruns or new episodes of the real thing though, especially considering I'm now "enlightened" as to who is doing the music

Notice you are teaching English in China. My boss had a friend who went over and she didn't even last a year. The conditions were terrible but I think she was working in a pretty isolated area.

Yup it's not the nicest place in the world; kinda dirty, bad food (in the south at least) and the people are generally pretty rude. The country areas can go either way; either heaps of fun or unbearable. One of my mates was working in a small town in the north when he first came here and he was even refused service in shops because he was white! But the most fun I've had in this country was in a little town in the north where my wife's family lives. People there hardly ever see foreigners, and they were so hospitable. I live in a big city; the money is quite good but you pay for that in other ways. But I'm out of here soon; my time is well and truly up. Last month I was assaulted and stabbed by a local guy who was mad that I have a Chinese wife That was the last straw; I found a job in Singapore and will be off there in mid-May. I delayed my departure cos Hooky is coming here on his D.J. tour! Cant wait...

That's terrible. Hope you weren't hurt too badly. Just goes to show that racism is alive and well in all countries. I think you have done very well to last there as long as you have.

Hooky is something to look forward to though. I wish the whole band would come here.

I've recovered pretty well, cheers hey. Unfortunately racism is well and truly entrenched here. Sad; I came over with such an open mind (I did anti-Pauline Hanson letter-box drops a few years ago to keep racists out of our own parliament!) but this is what I get in return. And I know I'm not the only one thats copped this kinda treatment here. Looking back, I can't believe I've stuck at it for so long! But, onward and upward....

I reckon we'll be back in Oz about this time next year, depending on how the contract in Singapore works out. It's hard for ESL teachers to get work there, so I'm thinking it must be pretty cool to work there if it's so sought after. Great random Singapore memory; stopped over in transit last year and walked into a C.D. shop, the guy behind the counter was wearing a J.D. Unknown Pleasures t-shirt!

I was born in New Zealand but grew up in Beaudesert, just outside of Brisbane. As soon as I turned 18 I was outa there, and spent the next five years in Brisbane's inner west. I miss it sooo much! Memories of driving down to the coast with Get Ready blasting on the stereo...awesome! As you say, if only the boys would come Down Under a bit more often... doesn't South Australia tend to miss out sometimes when the bigger acts tour Oz though? Brisbane is in the same boat.

We sure are! Often people do Melbourne and Sydney and skip Bizvegas - but if that happens agin I reckon i'm willing to fly somewhere for a good concert.

Well, I hope things work out better for you in Singapore. Brissy is a nice place - have some friends who live there.

Most of the bigger acts do come here, however we do miss out on some such as Rolling Stones - no great loss though!! New Order were here in 2002 at the Big Day Out - I didn't even know they were here until after!! I thought BDO was only for the younger kids, with all crap bands that I wouldn't listen to and had never heard of. How silly I was!!

Cheers for the kind thoughts folks. I can't wait to get to Singapore and get a fresh start! Just wish there was a fresh N.O. album to be the soundtrack to this adventure for me. Next time the boys tour we should all start a movement to get them out to some of the more far-flung regions. Hey, if Hooky can tour China with his DJ set then it's possible... only 6 sleeps to go I missed their 2002 set at the Big Day Out too, weak! There are always some decent bands playing there; its a pretty friendly event and not really just for the younger crowd hey. Caught the 2004 BDO on the Gold Coast; Dandy Warhols (who left the stage 15min early cos some bogan Metallica fans were heckling them), Basement Jaxx, The Strokes and Hoodoo Gurus were awesome, but the headline act was Metallica which kinda didn't fit with the whole feel of the rest of the day. Highlight for me was Aphex Twin mixing Love Will Tear Us Apart! Last year's BDO (which I missed by 3 days!) would have been great; Streets (one of my mates here reckons Mike Skinner is the 21st centurys' W.B Yeats!), Beasties and Chemical Brothers. Oh well, flights to Oz are cheap from Singapore, maybe next year....

Hey, just found out that they are showing the third series of Cracker on the ABC. Apparently this series was previously shown on Channel 7 back in 1995. It'll be worth the watch again though.

Haha! The new episode is about the mian character and his wife reurning from their new home... In Australia! To be screened in Uk at the end of the year - we wont get it for ages then. But perhaps they will screen the old series as maybe a lead in or something, at least they havent forgotten about it altogether.

Yep, it is the old one. I'll watch it again though as I'm sure there are things I have forgotten about - after all it was shown ten years ago!! I won't spoil it but one of the main characters commits suicide.

I watched the first bit of theis Brotherly Love episode - but it scared the bejesus out of me. Very sordid and creepy, so I switched off. I assume the other two only did the music for the most recent one though? The music in this one didnt seem very 'them'

Yeah, think you're right about the music.

Cracker is pretty dark, but it's one of the best cop shows around.

I might have stuck it out but I was watching with my mum and dad who got a bit uncomfy when the prostitute started dancing around singing with the teddy bear. Talk about an awkward moment. :\ohwell:
