Hooky "leaving" New Order - an alibi so that he can concentrate on Freebass?

As stated in wikipedia:

Freebass is a band currently "under construction". The group currently comprises three bass players: Andy Rourke (of The Smiths fame), Peter Hook (from New Order and Joy Division) and Gary "Mani" Mounfield (formerly of The Stone Roses and currently in Primal Scream). The indie outfit is currently writing songs, and has twelve that are just waiting for a vocalist. The band is looking for a new, young artist to fill the void on vocals.

The idea to make a band of three bass players came out on a drunken night, "All of the songs have three basses. Mani does the low part, Andy Rourke in the middle and I do the high bit", said Peter Hook in an interview, "it works out quite well". In the same interview, Hook also hinted that the band might go public soon, as soon as they get a front man that is.

The band has recorded the theme song for the Channel4 Radio program The Tube in 2006. It's the instrumental of a song called The Tower.

In an interview with Pagina, Peter Hook expressed a pleased attitude towards the progress of the band, "We've already written 17 tracks and it's coming along very well. We hope to finish it soon." And mentioned why he was so determined to do it, "The reason we decided to do it was because everyone laughed at our face when we suggested the idea. So we thought, 'Fuck them! We're gonna show them."

So, in my opinion, it's just an alibi of Hooky that caught the other members, and all of us, by surprise.

So those who laughed at their faces, shame on you!

Whatever he's on about, Hooky's not concentrating on Freebass that much - he couldn't even be bothered to hang around at Manc V Cancer2 and Rourke and Mani played as Twobass :skeptic:

Shite name, shite band :finger:

Well, I think all three will use a six-string bass guitar. Each of them will only strum two strings.

Bassist 1: the first and the fourth string, Bassist 2: the second and the fifth string, and Bassist 3: the third and the sixth string.:evil4:

This is 'concentrate' in the sense of an Ipod that never appeared, two minutes for 'The Tube' and an unfinished instrumental - over five years.

IF it comes out

It'll come out. I'd love to join up, Hooky even said it wasn't too late to send him a demo, but unfortunately as a bass player and just an 'average' singer, I don't stand a chance. My drumming is atrocious :( Besides, if I joined, it would have to be 'FourBass' Jack - of course they'll love it. Twats ;)

I'm really looking forward to hearing it but it's taking quite a while isn't it? I guess the singer thing is keeping it back. Would be perfect if they released it and toured this year with Control being out and all.... would help with the marketing.
