bands that draw their inspiration from New Order

Hi, I was wondering if we could compile a list of bands who have an obvious New Order sound that are around today. Perhaps that way discover new or up and coming ones.

Great idea! One band that has a definite New Order nuance about them is a band from the UK called Red Vein! (http://www.myspace.com/redveinmusic) I heard them on LA radio a couple of months ago and have loved them since... you should check them out if you haven't heard their music before!

I like Soft Ballet - their songs have been remixed by a who's who of electronic artists - i.e. 808 State, Orbital, Aphex Twin, EMF, Adamski, PWEI, etc) - especially on this release.

Ugh, I hate Freezepop. They're not drawing inspiration from New Order, they're drawing it from (or retreading, rather) all the cheezeball disposable 80s crap-pop like Tony Basil, ABC, Duran Duran, A-ha, Wang Chung, etc. I've never associated New Order with that shit.

I'm sure they do, but they didn't pay very good attention.

The Penelopes, Cazals, GD LUXXE, The Dear and Departed all sound pretty good to me. Soft Ballet is interesting too. Cut Copy is great. And your English is fine.

I like Freezepop... and it's great they like New Order. I don't think they take themselves too seriously, but their music is fun and catchy. I suspect they are more "Power, Corruption & Lies" inspired than "Low Life".

Each to their own. Theyre just not to my taste. I think Interpol have some a couple of decent tracks and Editors maybe one. But their all pretty forgettable (IMO).

Saw them live when they opened for Sisters of Mercy.

When I first heard Kanye West's album "808's & Heartbreak," my first thought was this guy knows New Order's music. Then when White Lies covered "Love Lockdown," I was even more convinced of it. Another band with an obvious JD/NO influence.

Sex Education sounds very New Order-esque: They do a great job of blending synths and programming with guitar riffs and have a cool glam/electronica fusion sound. It also doesn't hurt that Steve helped out on a couple songs...

Ladytron seems like an obvious choice: Their last two albums were really solid and well worth checking out if you haven't.

Galaxie 500 were clearly influenced by early New Order, especially given their brilliant cover of Ceremony. Galaxie's not exactly what you would call up-and-coming, but Damon and Naomi are still around.

I highly recommend that people check out Vertigo and Algorhythm.

Another band I'd recommend are Gerling.

Just like New Order, they easily float between guitar and electronic based music.

I don't get them either.Maybe it's me.A lot of folk on my DM site love them,and they generally like good stuff. A bit too cheesy for me,a bit like PSB(cheesy).I used to like the first Electronic lp,but I find Neil Tenant grating on my nerves as I have got older.

Yes! I heard their album last week, and there was one particular part where this choppy guitar part came in, sounded just like Bernard's playing. The synths made me raise an eyebrow, but that guitar part made me LOL.

Hot Chip and The XX - with two of the best albums from the past couple of years as well.

I think people who think the similarity is by no means not having heard a lot of Queen music. I suggest you go out and listen to music queen, but more importantly, keep buying and playing music, Muse, the music scene with live music at its best, and Muse will give us this heeps!

ive been listening to Happiness lately and it reminds me of electronic album (which came out a year later (so is that art imitating art)).

anyway, it still sounds fresh and Time After Time, The Sun Rising, I Found You, Wake Up Soon are stonking tunes. Actually the whole album is sublime.

Its one of the best albums in my collection.

I see a stronger influence from Technique (Best NO album ever) (although there's a clear 1 from Electronic). I see Happiness as the recognition of the new creative ways that Technique began.

(The) Beloved's 1987 album Where is it? (& their 1:st look) shows a very strong NO influence, specially from Power, Lies & Corruption & Low-Life.

Another NO-influenced band are Aussy 1:s Real Life, specially in their 1990 album Lifetime.

Boxcar were an Aussie band that were certainly inspired by New Order. Inspired to rip them off unashamedly.
