Before the concert by PH & The Light on 21-12-2010 in Groningen (Netherlands), the DJ played a version of Idiot Country that I had not heard befor. It was not the album version and certainly not Idiot Country Two. Were there other versions released, or am I mistaken?

An Electronic track being played before a Light show? Blimey, hope the DJ wasn't sacked 
As far as I'm aware there are only 3 versions of Idiot Country; the album version, the Ultimatum Mix (IC2) and a 7" Edit of the Ultimatum Mix - nothing else (officially) exists according to well-known Electronic discographies.
I'm not saying you're necessarily mistaken but sometimes tracks we know well can sound totally different on a venue's PA system. Happens to me anyway, you recognise some of the beats or whatever then go "ah yeah, that's the 12" mix".
Sadly that is my least favorite Electronic track. I actually made a copy of that album back in the day without that track so I wouldn't have to listen it. Barney's miserable attempt at being a rapper, glad he gave up the ghost on that pursuit! I would have been interested to see Hooky's reaction backstage to that.
It's not bad, I like the beats, wah wah guitar and the mellow keyboards which kick in towards the end. The lyrics were allegedly written as a reaction to the cops shutting down loads of warehouse parties/raves across England at the time; one of those rare occasions where Bernard wanted the words to actually mean something.
I think taken in context of 1990-91 it's a cool track but yeah the rapping might not have aged that well. Hat off to him though for trying to incorporate a fairly exciting new genre at the time (hip hop) into his song-writing.
Make It Happen from the last Electronic album is fantastic; it sounds like a distant cousin of Idiot Country to me.
Years ago I was in a pub and chucked a quid into the fruit machine, when it gave me nudges the guitar part near the end blasted out on repeat.

Hooky played Bernard's "Out Of Control" w/ Chemical Brothers at the Fac251 opening weekend.
He certainly still respects Bernard as a musician.
Good song but the rapping by Bernard (see also Feel Every Beat) is a bit cringeworthy. Flavor Flav he most certainly ain't!

Yes, Barney should stick to what he excels at, and that does not include rapping, dancing, or JD vocals!
Nuts. This is the best electronic song in my opinion. Live, it sounds amazing. Well, on the 2 gigs it was played ( or whatever).
How can you not like this??????
