On my bicycle adventure I spotted a bin of $1 cds outside a pub. Inside the bin was a copy of Hooky's side project. Could not remember if it was the full length or a Revenge single I lost when Wifey totalled the estate but for $1 I could not pass it up.

For me, OTP's not without its flaws but does contain the odd good track. "Big Bang", "Bleachman" and "It's Quiet" are alright, the song-writing (fleetingly) came together for those. "Pineapple Face" and "Slave" sound a bit dated in this day and age but the 12" remixes on the singles do them much more justice, particularly the ones commissioned for the American market by Capitol. Hooky's frequently said what Revenge were about; getting away from New Order but it seems writing in a non-NO style was obviously hit and miss for him. Once he went back to embracing that NO sound in Monaco with Pottsy that's when the song-writing got considerably better. I think it's obvious that with OTP he wasn't trying to create a recorded masterpiece but rather get some songs for a new band to get behind so he could get back out on the road asap.

The Gun World Porn EP is so much better in terms of songs; the full-length State of Shock is probably the best thing they ever did.

Revenge were definitely a mixed bag but not without the occasional flash of the old magic (see below):

I agree with everything The Mod says. I mean everything in that post, I don't know what else he's been saying.

Having given the disc a spin or two recently, yeah, it is a poor project. Gun World Porn EP is so much better. Pineapple Face reminds me of a kid sneaking into Bew Order's studio and turning everything on. He should have stuck with one direction on the song instead of trying 5.

In Pineapple Face Hooky sounds like Dave Gahan.

It doesn't seem to be on YouTube but the L'Pool Edit of State of Shock is worth seeking out; I think it was called the US Edit on the OTP V2.0 re-release.

Cracking remix.

almost agree, I think NaM nails it, as listened to OTP V2.0 on the way to work this morning and yes it seems to be the best single out put, but the GWP ep and some other tracks are thoroughly enjoyable, more an acquired taste and having not listened to my revenge stuff for quite a while will make more of an effort to play more of this side project.

Monaco way to New Order sounding for me, can't help think it was a case of if you can't beat them.
