This is an archived legacy thread. Replies are closed, but the discussion is preserved.

If you don't see the new forum system, then you have a favorite link that is connected to the old system, click the "Forums" option of the menu above, and you'll see the new one.

If you have problem with the new one, the old one entry point is:

http://www.neworderonline.com/ForumList.aspx

This will be active until the new version is stable enough, so please be patient.

Feel free to comment, I had to rush this release, so there are things that will not work, that's for sure. I'll fix them as they come.

And also, there are features not included yet, those will be added shortly once the bug list will be over.

Thank you for your patience.

How easy would it be to do a text only version of the forum? As its still slooooooooow...

I like it.

Mind you I liked the old one too.

I will probably like the next one so my opinion is a waste of time really.

I'll get me coat

Change for change.

Why change something that ain't broken?

P.S. The smilies ain't working... and not all of them are showing.

Actually the smilies were working only in the (new) enhanced editor.

I didn't think too many people were still using the flat editor ;)

Anyways, it's fixed.

Did you test the new Forum with Firefox? The "Quote"-function doesn't work. I can press "Quote" but the opening edit-window doesn't contain the quote...

Yes, I can't work the Quote button either and i'm on Firefox. Can we just plug the UBB code for it in manually or is the function itself buggered?...

I'm using FireFox now.

I believe the quote function only works with the WYSIWYG editor...

I'll see if I can fix this now, but seriously you should consider switching to the enhanced editor...

Community > Profile > Account Options

Switch editor and you'll be done.

I use Firefox and works OK, only minor problems like the colouring of the letters which will no doubt soon be fixed. I like the new entry system.

Thankee!  Works like a charm now.

It should be fixed for those not using the WYSIWYG editor as well.

But I harly recommand the new editor, it's not the same as on the old forum system...

and you don't need to drag and drop smilies anymore... click will do it.

All well and good, but get the fookin' "avatar off" option back please, before I smash the computer!

Ah, you're just mad because you're as big a time waster as the rest of us. I like the look of the new forum, and I love the new stats at the bottom of the forum list. Still, this new version takes longer to load.

I'm not convinced it's the new version... it's because we're monday...

Anyways, the point is, it's working, now I can concentrate on making it faster.

It keeps coming up with the following error:

Object cannot be cast from DBNull to other types

hence the multiple posts above....

Yes, I was working on it.

It's a bad bad thing I'm doing of working on a production machine, I know.

Well, this flat editor is actually too basic, but I tried using the other one and when I submit the message it didn't work and I found myself just as I had just click quote... The previous text editor still had bold and stuff like that... Hoping that this works at least, since I can't send message from the enhanced one, though I still prefere the faster text editor... Anyway I really, really like the look of the new forum... :thumb: So now it supports both HTML and UBB? [testing bold in both codes]

Would it be possible to move the looong header of the E mail messages of the subscribed threads to the bottom? Most of the info (sender, subject etc.) is repeated in the smaller header in the body of the message anyway... The only useful thing is the link to the thread but it can be moved below too, as it's more likely I wanna reply after reading the message... Also I think maybe the font size could be set to Verdana 2 rather than the current 3...

Oh, is the option "E Mail me replies to this post" the same as the usual subscription or do you just get quoted replies to your post? Anyway great job, we just need a "send by mail" button on each post so we can archive previous posts too!

I think you set the widths as proportional (from the previous absolute), that's better for my resolution, thanks.

What the hell is happening with the "edited" line at the bottom? It's too big and reports wrong UBB code in my nickname when in fact it's correct...

Also, I really enjoy the enriched smilies box, but is there still the complete list somewhere?

I'll put back the old text editor when I'll have the chance, it's true it had more features. I find the wysiwyg one a little slow to load unfortunatly.

HTML will only be supported via the HTML Editor, not via the text editor...

Yes, the checkbox is the subscription...

As for the email, don't worry, it'll be done...

*Great! :thumb:

*Actually you can write HTML code on the text editor and it works.

Yes, the checkbox is the subscription...

*Uhm, I actually received the message in my E Mail, but when I get to the thread the "Subscribe" button is still there as if I hadn't subscribed... I would think the checkbox is more like a subscription to just the reply of the very message you're sending, and not the whole thread... [edited part: Actually the "Subscribe" button is still there even after clicking it, so something has changed I guess...] Also when I reply I get to a page with the thread title but no messages... anyway it's good now the title is a link so I can get faster to the thread anyway... Oh, it would be good to have the links to the pages of the thread on the top bar too, not only at the bottom...

As for the email, don't worry, it'll be done...

*Fabulous  Thanks for your hard work!

Hum.. what you don't see is that there will be private message and subscription management from the forum index page... I just didn't have time to do it.

So go to the old system for the moment (check the first message of this thread)

/me does not like the WYSIWYG editor at all, but took the time in the profile section to finally get an avatar set up...

Here we go, you have now a nice "enhanced" text editor.

I hope it'll do what you want... technically you can do pretty much what you do with it.

Some parts might not work properly, I didn't have time to do it all, so if you see some problem, let me know.

Just a quick note, but the 'link' button doesn't format the 'newwindow' bit correctly, as shown below:

I'm using Firefox with speed tweaks and a Cable modem booster, and it works about the same as any webpage.I like the cleaner, bolder interface. Did you also switch hosts, or find a way to pay for more bandwith?

RAMA

You click delete, it brings you to a new page just for that !

So far so good, but I still got 3 "server too busy" errors today, so there is work to do...

Just very difficult to find which process is causing the problem.

Until our host has enough...

the damn search engine still doesn't work. :(

wow. it's all fancy and everything. nice one.

Well, most of these will be fixed soon, but right now I need to put all my efforts on reducing the load... we were shut down again today for excessive cpu usage.

I suspect that one process might stuck and it generates all this, my prime suspect is thread subscription, it might jam when sending mails to subscribers...

Why do I have to keep signing in, when I'm not exiting the page ? I just switch to something else on the PC (boss alert), or I don't do anything at all. And I don't want to click the auto sign-in box because the PC's shared. Might be my LANs fault though.

It will sign you out if you don't do anything for 20 mins... and by not doing anything, I mean the last time you clicked on the menu or a button that does an action.

If that's not the case, then it's something else.

Some of the writing (post titles, user details etc.) is so small it's pretty much unreadable. Any way to fix that?

The post Preview function doesn't appear to be working.

Also, any chance you can reduce the size of the "Edited by depthcharge at 1.07pm" text that appears below posts after you edit? Better when it was small sized - it detracts from the post being so large.

But you're doing a bloody great job anyhow Nicos.

*As much as I enjoy this feature, and would like to see it even expanded, don't hesitate if you need to drop it. Maybe we could have a text version of the forum, that'd be faster to browse for users with lower connection speeds (actually I don't even think they can come here now, tried to browse with my girlfriend's 56k and it was nightmare), reduce bandwidth, and we could do without E Mails if it was faster... I'm thinking about the difference between a page like this: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp and a "printer friendly" page like this: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp?output=print where there's only the very essence of the page, it's only text, links and font size formats (not even face). Maybe the forum would be lighter and faster in a version like this, if this is possible at all? Of course you'd leave the current version online too, but one could always choose and I'm sure we'd often choose the fastest when there are a lot of messages like these days...
