Maybe your pics are too big?
I had this problem a while ago. Got that error when I tried to upload the same pic that I had before. When I renamed the file, it worked.
No, that isn't it I'm afraid. The photo's under the size limit, is a JPEG, doesn't have capital letters or spaces in the file name. Might be the ugly face in the pic ;)
Send it over, I'll check.
I believe it's something as stupid is it must be wider than tall... I will eventually replace the whole system of picture/avatar with the same I now use for the galleries.
And put avatar back on here to be able to control the size.
