The only DVD player I have available is the DVD-RAM on my IBM laptop.

buy a cheap non-brand player for $50. in the system menu of both your your tv and player change the format from ntsc to auto.

there are also many hacks on the web to turn dvd players into multizone players.

Thanks for the advice NOOLigan. I will look into some multi-regional players. Now, I just realized that I posted in the wrong forum. Just so that I can get more suggestions, can someone move this in BCD? Thank you.

a quick web search using terms like dvd player, multizone and hack should reveal a number of quick hacks to turn just about any player into a multizone player.

Since a monitor is not a television, it uses neither PAL nor NTSC. you can watch both perfectly well on the same screen (after all NO MONITOR ON EARTH refreshes at the 50Hz that PAL uses, yet everyone can watch PAL videos).

Your problem is region lock codes and nothing to do with TV formats.... in other words, the technology is perfect, you're getting it in the ass from greedy bastards, who have deliberately tried to rip you off.
