What you'd like to see in the member profile?

If you think we should add or remove any field available in the member profile, now is the time to say it!

As I'm working on the new version (won't be released any time soon, as I have to finish it all before I can put it online!), it's time to say so!

Thanks.

How about a tally of how mad an individual poster is, compared of course to the Mickster of Red :D

You could include the number of posts a user has so far and how many more they've got to go before they move up to the next rank. Just a thought.

would be nice to have a space to list your new order collections as you've mentioned before... or what about a wants list? or first new order gig?

I like the idea of first NO gig. Also, how about a picture of your pet.

The profile could show the number of posts in each forum, I just want to know how many posts I have in the Portuguese forum.

Actually, I'm curious to know how many posts some people have in the off-topic forum. :evil4:

hey, what about an "instant message" system? sometimes i want to talk to someone or show him something. if we could send instant messages (short ones, of course, like in yahoo) that could be solved. avatars could have a smiley telling if a member is online at that moment. just an idea....

dont really know if this is practical or not but i think it would be good idea to have a seperate section in the profile dedicated to the members response to the most popular of polls. for instance polls which attract over a certain number of posts could appear dynamically in the profile (only if the user voted in that particular poll) along with their answer. this could be somewhat problematic as polls like favourite male singer could arise which would conflict with a heading already present in the profile.

just an idea :)

just thought of another idea although it is pretty obvious. perhaps you could divide the member profile into several sections. for instance the current member profile could be integrated into a general information section, the new order collection could appear on a seperate page of its own linked to all the other profile sections. a how i got into new order/jd section would also be nice in perhaps an additional information page, along with brief summarys of gig reports or reviews created by that member for the site.

Nice idea, but not easy to do.. well, it's easy to do, but since the website is not in real time, you could see personal messages only when doing a request to the server...

It's in the plans, as the damned chat room :D

i just thought about the "how i got into new order" bit after reading shugs story a while back, added real value to the site. perhaps you could link the introduction to new order texts to the stories page that used to be here (cant find it anymore, then again im still drunk) to the profile section? it would make it a lot easier for people to tell their whole story and it would add a hell of a lot of value to the site for me personally because i find it really interesting hearing about where they heard the band first and all.

i realise there is already a "Why do I like New Order?" heading where a lot of people have entered their stories, could this not be seperate from the story bit. for instance

Why do I like New Order I like Hooky's bass mainly

How I got into new order Heard Blue Monday in a shop hated it, later learned to love it........taught my budgie to whistle love vigilantes, played retro one evening and it died

p.s : i realise this may well be a right pain in the arse trying to reorganise the site, but hey im on a roll

sorry about this, its getting ridiculous now but i was looking at the profiles yet again as id just updated mine recently and thought it could be handy if you used a select box to list all of the songs and albums in the favourite song and favourite albums sections. that way you could easily keep track of favourite album and song without as many polls. i assume it would then be possible to link the persons favourite song on the profile page to the specific track on the song browser? this could be a good way of finding any (if any) tracks you have missed as if someone realises their favourite track isnt there in the select box they could notify you

from now on ill just edit the fecking post every time i have a new idea, another one

if you did use the above technique you could then formulate advanced statistics by country. for instance

in the United Kingdom

24% of our members favourite song is true faith (compared to 21% sitewide average) 18% of our members favourite song is blue monday BLAH BLAH

obviously you could shorten the crap ive written above to something shorter. i think it would definitely be an interesting idea to see which songs are most popular in which countries (a cultural insight perhaps?)

Well, the problem with that is that we'll empty all known profile.. and the textbox is there to allow multiple entries.

Altough it would save space for sure... but I'm not sure it's always a good idea overall, I remember at first, the side project was a drop down list, and you had to pick only one ;)

yeah that would be pretty difficult in retrospect  multiple select boxes could have worked but they are a pain to manage i guess

Not really... it's very easy with the new platform to do such things..
