Still on about Asia Argento then David? Have you read the new book about her Father "Profondo Argento: The Man, The Myths and The Magic".

I haven't read it, unfortunately. A guy I know has been trying to turn me on to a bunch of Italian horror movie books from FAB Press, but I have too many unread film books at the moment. Damn ego of mine.
I run a website dedicated to musicians and fans of synth-rock music:
http://uk.geocities.com/empresstouch/alteralter.htm
Enjoy
The only bands that I think are better than Pet Shop Boys are Joy Division and New Order, with contention from Happy Mondays and The KLF.
Well (besides N.O.) I always loved PSB and Erasure (I saw Andy and Vince live just a few weeks ago
). Though I can't vote for two bands I choose not to do it...
Depressed Mood, I mean Depeche Mode. They've always ranked in my top 5. Although the Smiths are gaining as I age!
I actually love PSB, Erasure and The Smiths, with Depeche Mode more in the "like" category. None of them come close to NO, but they're pretty good, I think!![]()
I voted for Depeche Mode-- keeping in mind that we're talking about the 80s. Not too impressed with them after Violator.
What do you think about the "comeback" of Duran Duran?
out of the above bands: the smiths.
out of all bands considered '80s, it would have to be duran duran!
![]()
For me the best Band are DEPECHE MODE , for your fantastic music and evolution in this years !!!
bye bye BOB from Turin - ITALY
:D ![]()

Oh fook... The german's loved it... I'm pretty ashamed of my people in that case. I didn't like it and I don't own it... But I admit I have a song of him in my ITunes "most awkward party songs"-list...
In my mid-teens i really loved The Smiths, Johnny Marr's guitar playing and Morrissey's lyric's ("I wear black on the outside because black is how i feel on the inside") had a big impact on me back then, but when i listen to them now i find them juvenile and Morrissey's lyrics are too self-pitying for me. However, back in the mid-eigthies i thought they were just wonderful and spent many late nights playing there records and reading Morrissey's lyrics.

Did they make more than that one song about how to build birdhouses?
I think the reason that NO arent in the list, is apparently that this is NOOL - there d be no point of placing a poll that would end with percentages like 99%. ;)
I would like to have more options though, like Happy Mondays, Jesus AMC, Stone Roses, U2 etc etc and for some ppl - even definetely not for me) The Cure. I mean, shoudnt the poll be more representable instead of having us choosing between just 4 bands?
Anyways, out of these 4, The Smiths definetely are my choise. ![]()
PSB , Ersure ,Smiths?!!.
fcuk all those
The Band apart from New Order that was the best was The Cocteau Twins!!
What`s up with you people?
Are you gay ? Just a serious question - no offence meant, just wonder what you see in those bands
Digital Mike Binoche wrote: Are you gay ? Just a serious question - no offence meant, just wonder what you see in those bands
what bands would those be, mike? new order, electronic, and the other two? ;)
I agree with Joe.Talk Talk just sounded and still do like no other band about at the time.Mark Hollis has a very unique voice.Whats happened to them??
From this list, I'd have to most definatly say The Smiths. Morrissey/Marr created a nearly unbeatable songwriting team. Plus, most of their songs aged well and are still revelant today.
the smiths--a total one off. the bird in holiness the pope's post on other page aint tabitha cash.i reckon its stephine swift-american porn star.well so ron jeremy tells me
As well as NO, DM, Smiths:
Guns N Roses, The Cult, The Sisters of Mercy, Killing Joke, Ozzy Osbourne, U2, Public Enemy, Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Roses and Prince.
I wouldn't call Erasure, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys "80s" bands. If a band has released material in the 90s or beyond that, such as the 2000s, then I will never label them "80s" bands.![]()
Ok I think that the best band in that time was DM, but where are NEW ORDER and THE CURE!!!!!!!!!![]()
New Order were obviously the best but there was a wealth of other contenders for second best....heres my list Psychedelic furs Killing Joke early Simple minds Aztec Camera Public image Scritti politti Echo and the Bunnymen the Cure early Pet shop boys
All of the above plus:
Simple Minds Blow Monkeys Curiosity Killed the Cat Duran Duran Five Star (sorry but i was a child

(Echo) Ha! Sorry, laughing at my own jokes in a Billy Connolly stylee!
I love all four bands listed (even Erasure!) and other people have listed some other great bands, but for me, Depeche Mode simply had many more very good songs than any other 80's band, except NO, of course!!
I vote Pet Shop Boys
Depeche Mode is one of my top 5 favourite groups, but I like their material from Violator and up, not so much their 80s stuff. Their 80's stuff is not bad but The Pet Shop Boys were at the peak of their game during the 80s so I voted for them. I like the Smiths a lot, Erasure is just ok for me.
(New Order as well as a few others were not available :) )
its the bunnys for me..
though for the sake of polls id go for the smiths.
routine bites hard,
banshee wrote: cocteau's,smiths, the cure and new order are the 80's
I'll agree with you there.
[Though I should NOT forget The Human League, Heaven 17, and--oh dear, oh dear--Rita Mitsouko.
*humming 'Marcia Baila' now*
I have liked all the listed bands (and others) at some point and to varying degrees. Of the options available, I'd go PSB.
Clearly though, NO were better, but there you go.
New Order Blondie Talking Heads The Replacements Slayer Metallica Devo INXS....there are loads of better bands the the 4 at hand...

in a way, u're right. A lot of eighties bands were, actualy, uninteresting at all. All these synth'bands were crap most of the time. The guitar lines saved NO from fallin in the same trap. I guess their past as jd saved them too...
But the eighties gave us interesting music if we remember bands like the Bunnymen, Felt, PAle Fountains,LLoyd cole early recordings and some JMC material.
Wham, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran etc etc were, obviously, the most disgusting bands ever. But history doesn't remind them. that's a sign.

Well, Duran Duran it's not too bad....unless for me ![]()
i vote for DM!
they were the best band in the 80s (except NO) and they were the greatest band here in germany. they still have have their greatest supporters here in germany and most of them love DM from the beginning...

I share your shame!! I can even name them I am sad to say.
From the list, definitely the Smiths, (New Order goes with out saying) but I also loved Blondie, Pet Shop Boys and Erasure. Does that redeem me for the Five Star indescretion??? ![]()
What a choice we have here! Only those 4 bands? Crap list. Where's the Bunnymen? The Fall? Sisters of Mercy?
the chameleons
echo and the bunnyboilers
talk talk
blondie
big black
violent femmes
oh and some band calling themselves joy division or something( seeing that this topic has run for a couple of years i thought someone should give them a mention)
from the list supplied, das shmits i suppose![]()
What kind of poll is this???
Are there only 4 bands in the 80s? And New Order is not even in the list. Not even the Cure, U2, Inxs, the Human League, Howard Jones, Metallica, etc. Because of that, I boycott the polls.
By the way, my top two answers in the thread topic (best '80s band) is also my top two artists of all time. They are:
- New Order
- The Cult
Indeed!
