I agree - the addition of the bass makes the latter version better. But I also like the intro better and also that they added a proper ending. The slow fadeout with the song still playing is something I hate - it makes even a great song end on a sour note, or is that not end because it keeps going?
The original defintely, although 94's not bad. I remember several reviewers suggesting it was a better song than True Faith when the pair were first released. Definitely their best ever b-side!
i'm with wasim and eric on this one. the prominence of hooky's bass in the 1994 version makes the latter an improvement on the original.

True, but I prefer the fade out on the original. Makes it more complete.

Obviously the '95 Arthur Baker remix.
It change a song I didn't like to a song I like a lot...
Hooky's bass is sooo good on that remix, it changed the full thing.
I like the original version better. The one that I heard first was the 94 version and that made me cry.(not the version itself; it's just that 1963 seems to be a really sad and emotional song.) However, when I listened to the original version, I liked the original better.
for whatever twisted reasons i have, i think the original carries a more angry tone than the '94 remix. both are genuine. i likes both! 
Original. First time I heard 1963 was on the Substance sides cassette that came out shortly after Substance. Almost too perfect of a b-side. I remember reading that Hooky and Sumner jokingly forgot what was on the "b-side to 1963". Both tracks were produced by Hague and they both carried a tone of hope, yet despair. Even though they sounded alike in parts, those two original compositions remain forever in my very new order time capsule.

Original. The longer an NO song is the better. I like how the keyboard fits into the melancolic atmosphere of the song.
Played 1963 more than True Faith when it was released. I much prefer the original, if some of the bass from the remix was thrown in that would make it perfect.
I normally prefer the original, but here I like the 1994 version. It jazzed up a pretty good song, for me. Maybe it helps that I didn't much care for this song when I first heard it, but I grew to like it while listening to it on "Best of"...
