no contest anyway...LOTR without a doubt! Star Wars is just a remake of Kurosawa's 'The Hidden Fortress' set in outer space. Episodes 1 and 2 have irreperably damaged the franchise, coz they weren't much cop! 
Both excellent,Star Wars has become so much more than just the films nowdays. Lord Of The Rings has been done that well,i cant see that another version would ever need to be made.
I can't beleive I'd choose something over Star Wars, but the LOTR movies were all outstanding. Who cares if Star Wars is a rip off of Samuri & Western movies? Still great stories and characters. However, the newer trilogy did ruin the originals for me, to an extent, though Revenge of the Sith did redeem them somewhat.
