Growing up with NO, which and why?

1. Temptation - sitting exams and holiday romance
2. Blue Monday - College days (sigh..........)
3. Thieves like us - Walking out mid A levels and saying 'b*****s to it all! (If only......)
4. BLT - falling in love seriously in love and out again within months! then landing a dream of a job
5. True Faith - 21st birthday and leaving that dream of a job - best bestest time of my life ever! Hence, love the song!
6. BLue Monday 88 - Big hair and lots of make up and lots of wine
7. Fine Time - leaving home and going darn sarf!
8. World in Motion - Back in brum, married and pregnant (oh yeah, and the world cup) Pavarotti was in there somewhere as well..
9. Regret (oh yes); Life back in order, great job, and hey presto, pregnant.
10. Spooky - A very very premature baby - who's nearly 12 years old - ooohhh. Spooky.

I sort of lost them there for a while (NO), you know how it is? Back on track now. Seriously regretting no.3.

they were there for all my senior high school years, and university. republic helped me through a major illness, and then nothing for many years. I suffered serious withdrawl symtoms. Now at a sad time in my life they are there once again to offer me support.

Helped me through my first year of uni, as well as Ozzy.

i heard Technique first,it was when i used to go round to Shugzv's house he played it most of the time,today it's still my favorite album and i listen to the album quite a lot..

my mum bought me temptation by new order when i was young by mistake coz she thought it was the heaven17 song!!!!

shellshock- first time i heard new order on the radio and it wasn't BM

substance - caravan holiday in newquay (last time i went anywhere with my folks).

touched by the hand of god - first time i listened to john peel

technique- skiving off school to go into town and buy music instead

1983 - Watching NO perform Blue Monday on Top of the Pops and thinking what a bunch of miserable bastards.

1987 - Watching the True Faith video on Saturday Superstore and thinking it was mad but birlliant.

1988 - Taking 8 for 20 in cricket, my girlfriend dumping me and thinking they'd ruined Blue Monday by getting Quincy Jones to remix it.

1989 - Pissing myself laughing when Barney sings the line 'I've never met a woman who had all her own teeth' in Fine Time.

1993 - Watching NO perform Regret on TOTP on the Baywatch set and being somewhere between disbelief and hilarity.

Listening to REGRET for the first time on radio1 and suddenly deciding that my girlfriend of the last three years was a miserable twat.Its hard to explain but the music just made feel that it was time for a change so i finished the relationship about two hours later. ha ha ha There are so many reasons to thank New Order but every time i hear REGRET i always say a little thank you under my breath :D :D :D

1. Brotherhood: I've really gotten into NO from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack and WLIR on the Island and I'm in the car with my brother, an officer in the Navy. He stops at a local base to go to the PX and asks if I want anything. I say 'yes, in fact, a tape by New Order.' He looks at me oddly (he didn't reeally mean did I want anything) and comes back with Brotherhood. 'What are they, communists?' he says, putting Cat Stevens into the tape deck.

2. Substance: two things: My father really upset and yelling up to my room to turn down the music unless I want to go deaf! I guess he doesn't like Perfect Kiss. Two: I'm driving along in my stuffy, affluent suburb blasting Everything's Goine Green thru the stereo of my mom's fuddy-duddy car an d these two cute girls pull up beside me and ask me what I'm listening to. I tell them and they smile and say 'that's really cool.' I have no idea what to do next, so I drive away.

3. Technique: Completely and utterly drunk in college, drinking in a dorm room at a small party, me and this gorgeous blonde I've been friends with all year bowing to a stereo to the 'New Order God' as Technique is playing and then later hooking up (and then later breaking up terribly, but she was a huge U2 fan, so my issuies there are with Achtung Baby).

4. Get Ready: I'm a landlord and living in the building (bad idea, but it's the only way to afford anything aroudn NYC), a terribly snakebitten place with older, hardened tenants who complain all the time, and it's what's playing as I do the dishes, drunk (again!) and trying to keep thinking about how I'll sell this damn place one day.

5. WFTSC: I've sold the damn place and finally made a bit of quid (I like to think of the building as my far less interesting Hacienda - a distinct experience, but a money pit too) and I drive my wife crazy listing to this album over and over anbd over.

Blue Monday - I was a tot. My brother had the radio blaring in his room, and this started to play. I started shaking my wild thing, and that was the start of it all.

Bizarre Love Triangle/True Faith - Summer holidays, we drove to the beach, and these were THE two songs that endlessly spun, and engrained themselves into my memory. I got Substance on tape shortly thereafter.

Technique - heard R&R on the radio, but it wasn't until I was in my teens that I started to "get" Technique, and go to raves/shows and the like.

Republic - stood in line to get this. Difficult time in my life + little sleep + this album = it was my fuel for an entire year.

Spent all of the 'formative' teen years really entrenched into collecting albums, and as a result became a better person for it. Instead of skulking around all angsty, I took the inpiration from the story of Factory, and started up my own music collective with friends.

College/Serious Work = Movement, Low Life and PC&L. On repeat. Spoke to me at that time unlike any other time I'd heard them.

Few bands have hit a resonance in me like NO and JD. Therefore, I've supported them for as long as I've known about them. :P

shellshock--pretty in pink soundtrack. i had heard of new order but didn't think anything of it until:

blue monday--first heard it in 7th grade (1986) when i was 11 and three girls performed a dance routine in the school talent show to the song. i thought it was brilliant.

true faith--when i first saw it on MTV i fell in love with it and bought substance, only to find blue monday and shellshock on the same album! what a find!

technique--the soundtrack of my summer of 1989 and the technique tour was my second concert ever (red rocks in denver). played the cassette well into 1990.

brotherhood--received a lot of play my senior year of high school (1991-1992). i don't know why, but i went through a brotherhood phase. BLT was played a lot at our school dances and NO were quite popular at my school so the song always received a good reception.

republic--my sophomore year at university. i played it quite a bit, then realized it wasn't that great. i got more and more into britpop and 'lost' new order until:

get ready--i met a boyfriend through talking about new order and JD for hours. we went to see them at the glasgow barrowlands together.

here to stay--my favourite NO song. reminds me of the movie and that the band is (DUH) 'here to stay' in my life.

i did once post a speech here a couple of years ago or so entitled new order and me, that presented to my local Toastmasters speech club. that too ended with the line Here To Stay.

1982 discover lyrics to LWTUA scribbled on a study carol at the U of I library.

1984 loan boombox to friends doing RAGBRAI. They return it with a cassette that recorded The Beach from KUNI thankfully dj Bob Dorr mentioned the name and group. I Immediately seek out all the New Order I could purchase including the 12 inch of Temptation, TLU, Murder, Factus 8 and Movement

Fall 1984 start college. This was the last time I listened to The Police, The Cars and the Doors.

1985 Low-Life I remember driving to the college that my wife attended making a pit stop to purchase Low-Life. She was on the volleyball team and I was on the bleachers staring at the vinyl of Low-Life. Later I was able to record the 12 inch of TPK. I remember driving around smoking a joint and listening to TPK on the shitty car stereo when it hit me what an incredible song it was.

1986 I hear Broken Promise on the radio and proceed to wake up half the dorm when I cranked it up. Soon purchase Brotherhood.

The years blend and I buy every release

1991 Gulf War and my first child is born about the time World in Motion came out. This becomes a theme for my changing life.

1993 Republic I get The Limited Run and every single and tickets to see them in Chicago. But a my son is born two days prior to the gig and I elect to skip it.

Ceremony..........brilliant first single.

Temptation........friends and I would pester the local college radio DJ's to play it every day, until we all got our own copies.

Age Of Consent........absolutely transfixed first time I heard that one on the radio.

Love Vigilantes........first song I heard on the radio the day I bought a new car.

The next three albums (Brotherhood, Technique, and Republic)......various lovely people I'd been in contact with, for various reasons (i.e. giving away my Technique buttons to Angie, hope she's treated them well), and the end of my "flexible" lifestyle that kept me up till the morning way too many times.

2005 ... brother plays me 511 and get ready

2 days later... buy best of NO

2 weeks later... buy substance & WFTSC

1 week later... buy PC&L and movement

1 week later... buy brotherhood and low life

1 week later... buy heart and soul

2 weeks later... buy rest of & 316

1 week later... buy krafty and jetstream

then begin getting boots, republic, rarities and other two stuff from friendly people here!

A rather condensed NO experience -but it will last me for the rest of my life.

DENIAL probably the first I ever heard by NO.Got to thank John Peel for that,I was listening in till late while doing my homework. TEMPTATION at college.Used to go in computer room after college and unplug the cassette player from computer and play this. LOW-LIFE 1st record I bought by them.Saw them for 1st time on Low-Life tour at The Hacienda,which was also the first time I went in there. "The FESTIVAL OF THE 10th SUMMER" I got a Saturday off from a toy shop(!!!)to be at this event celebrating punk in Manchester.The Smiths,The Fall,OMD,Pete Shelley and finally NO were headlining. TECHNIQUE (and every single off it) Soundtrack to 1990,it was so cool to be in Manchester:NO,James,Morrissey,Happy Mondays,JOE BLOGGS.I'd just started DJ-ing at my local pub,and I used to play 'em to death. WORLD IN MOTION again working in my local.I was playing this 6 times a week,till Germany knocked us out of the World Cup,and the pub turned into a morgue!

March 1983- Watched them do Blue Monday on TOTP.Never heard of them before .What a bunch of miserable bastards!

September 1983 -Suddenly become fascinated and tranxfixed with Blue Monday after it re enters the charts.

October 1983- My bro buys Power ,Coruption And Lies and i hear Age Of Consent for the very first time.Awesome! that bass melody, those synths,those lyrics!.Heaven and there was no looking back from now on.New Order had changed my life

April/May 1984- Thieves Like Us soundtracked my last days at school and the following summer when i got my first job

1985- Low Life .Their best album and the soundtrack to the summer of 85 and an on/off girlfriend

1986- Brotherhood and my first ever New Order gig at Birmingham Tower Ballroom.Fantastic gig.18 years old and starting to get really sick of work now though!

1987 -Substance and True Faith.A horrible year,however .Just boredom and depression at being stuck in a dead end town with nothing happening .Thatchers Britain.The bright lights were True Faith and 1963 and Substance which i would listen to over and over again to escape .Caught them twice live that year, Sheffield Roxy in June- fantastic gig and Wembley Arena in December-crap.

1988- A fun summer .Bought my first car.Got away with some mates most weekends .Blue Monday 88 was shit though!

1989 -Technique and another great summer of partying

1990- World In Motion and the World Cup! Got to the Hacienda a few times ,too!

1993 -Republic.Right, that's it, i'm getting out of working and this town!.Gonna see some of the world.Started getting some money saved to hit the road!

1994-1997 No New Order. Travelling .This is the life!! .Mostly Israel ,Egypt and Jordan.Relationship with a girl in Israel who didnt like New Order. Didn't listen to New Order much those years becaue they weren't doing anything of course apart from the side projects.So got into a lot of the techno/ambient bands around .Orbital etc.

1998- Back in my home town but at least New Order were re emerging for some gigs.Went to Reading 98.Better than sex is how i described it straight after the gig

2001- Get Ready and a volatile on/off relationship with a girlfriend that finally had to end.And bought my first house.Fookin ball and chain bollocks.Got it's advantages though of course.

2005 -WFTSC. Spending half me time on NOOL! and got to the Hyde Park and Brixton gigs
