And as for me, it's a tie between 'Something Else' and the single version. But it's the single version for me that wins me over.

Yes, probably one of the greatest songs ever. Should have been a massive hit single everywhere.
Has to be the single version for me, their defining moment, faultless.
It's one of my two all-time favorite songs [the other song being New Order's classic 'The Perfect Kiss'], and every single time I hear it it's like adrenaline rushing through me. I just love what the song does to me!
first song i heard joy division play live , on the telly and single.. still knocks me back in my seat these days. the factory live version on the order l.w.t.a u. single was prety rocking as well.

After 20 years of rating Atmosphere as their best track, in the past few months Transmission has slowly but surely overtaken it... To be fair, haven't heard a bad version of it, from the Warsaw/RCA demo through to recent live versions...
