Weekly Song Review: Mr Disco

1. Best - the very start, the first few notes.
2. Worst - recycled sequencer bassline from State of the Nation.
3. Love/hate - not sufficiently inspiring to trigger much reponse here.
4. Third favourite off Technique, solid 50%
5. Part of me would love to jack the London ratrace in and move to Antigua, and just play music to keep my head above water while relaxing. Failing that, I'd move to Paris or Antwerp, both great cities of culture. I'd miss England though, shithole or no shithole. My hands are a bit tied on this, the missus refuses to live outside England !

1. Whispery bit at the end, much parodied round these parts! (what was it Tim? "Burslem, Hamley and Trenty Vale too, I've been to all those places but never sniffed glue!")
2. It's a bit cheesy (I know that's the point, but....)
3. Like most of the heavily sequenced numbers on "Technique", it does seem hermetically sealed in 1989, but a killer chorus and plenty of happy memories mean that this one gets thumbs up from me!!

He must be doing loads of stuff for people - I got another half-dozen gigs through on Saturday from him, about three weeks after I received what I thought was all the stuff I'd ordered initially.

Count yerself lucky - I ain't had the ones I paid thirty quid for a month ago yet. If you don't want any of them, bung 'em my direction !

2. The worst bit - the whole song is ace! Many people don't like it, but I think it's a great song.

1. Drum drops at the beginning then that wonky bass. Instant love.
2. That the song bloody ends. It's one of those New Order tracks I never, ever get sick of.
3. I rather relate to it. And it's beautifully produced, with all of the New Order pieces fitting together perfectly. It's a sad dance song, too, which rates highly with me.
4. 100%. My favorite New Order track.
5. I like America just fine, but would like to spend an extended visit in the UK.

best part--the chorus, almost emotional worst--cheesy techy sounds dnk donk, dink dink doick why I love it--emotions, a catchy tune that I can sing 80% I live in the Land of the Wierd and cheap gas, why move anywhere else? Germany I suppose so I do some high speed runs on the Autobahn and kill myself as well as the family in the Peugot I just creamed.

1.The synth-horns at the beginning!The sequenced background beeps! 2. I can't find anything wrong with that song. Sure, it stole SOTN's bassline, but I'd say that it's much, much better than that song. 3.It's just such a well-done song; I can't explain it, really. It's also a nice seque from Guilty Partner and Run to Vanishing Point.^_ 4.85%-90% 5.Your country is a wonderful place, it pales my Eng...er...New York into disgrace.

Best things are that it's a decent tune, and I like Barney's singing on this one.

Don't care much for the beginning of the instrumental section, nor for the song title itself.

It's not my fave song on Technique, but I never pull the needle off the vinyl whenever I play it.

best bit: I like the little background melody going on in the chorus and the "Barcelona" and "Ibiza" samples in the live versions worst bit: the end where it goes into vanishing point love/hate: I like this song quite a bit actually. Probably in my top 15 NO songs. Alternates with Dream Attack as my favorite from Technique. Country I would like to live in: There's a lot of cities that I'd love to maintain an apartment in (Paris, London, Sydney, San Francisco) but I think as far as a culture (the people, the food, the pace) that I could really embrace, I think Spain is a place I could really settle into. I found it be quite charming as well as sophisticated when I was there.

1. The lyrics, Barney's voice, the fact it's so damn catchy.
2. I started unintentionally singing this at work in the summer, and it was pretty embarassing.
3. Barney's voice just sounds good here, and I actually like the title. Unfortunately, it's one of those songs I don't want to be caught singing in public.

Well every country has its low points i guess: Ireland and the UK have their weather, the US have bush jr , Argentina have a dangerous lunatic coachin their football team :D and Greece has greeks :p . In the end i cant be sure ( i do remember though, when i visited Ireland i tried really hard to convience myself to get up the the plane that would fly me back ;) ). Awwww i forgot this thread is about mr. disco . Hmmmm 85 % it is for me :) .

Best Bit: The synth/drum patters are excellent, especially that stereo effect in the middle of the song. Worst Bit: They repeat the chorus after that amazing electronic noise in the middle. They should extend that out, and end w/ the "Ibeza, etc." whispers. Why I love/hate: First proper Order LP I got into, lots of good memories of high school and my first car. Top song Rating: 99.999% Country: CANADA :D

Best Bit:

That instrumental bridge in the middle. Love the synths in there. Also love the lyrics following that, "Maybe you could write me a letter...", cribbed the lyrics in a letter and won a girl's heart with them. We lasted seven years :). 1990-1997

Worst Bit:

The title. One of the worst ever New Order titles though maybe it makes sense (in keeping with their intentions for the song), still, at least it's not as bad as 60 MPH. What's that supposed to mean? You're a wild one, except that old ladies riding in larks would pass you on a highway?

Why I love it?

Musically I find it both gorgeous, and very stimulating, usually New Order songs this gorgeous are more stately (Thieves, Age of Consent, Your Silent Face, Elegia), but this combines beauty and intensity. Barney's singing is outstanding as well and I do like the lyrics as well. It's perfect.

Other Country I'd like to live in: I'm happy where I am. However if I could spend some open ended time anywhere, it would probably be Italy, and I wouldn't mind logging a lot of time in Brazil either :D.

Haha, I stumbled onto this thread while I was listening to the song.

1. Love the synth and vocals, especially the first little breakdown after the chorus. The "pew pew" noises are f' sweet. Just makes me want to jump out of my chair and dance. The synth during the verse is also stellar.
2. Honestly, this is probably my third favorite track off of Technique, behind Vanishing Point and Fine Time. I can't find anything wrong with the song.
