What do you think of this song? It's their only cover version to be released (apart from "Turn The Heater On" from the peel sessions). I've never heard the original by Jimmy Cliff. So, how does it stand up in your opinion?

It's a bouncy tune for sure. Right up there with WIM 
or SAGT in "Happiness Factor" but I don't mind hearing it every once in a while!

Breezy and lighthearted (considering the subject matter), Hooky's bass.
Cheesy backup singers, overly simplistic and lethargic guitar.
Kinda pointless really (except the whole anti-war thing)

I love the song. Once again it proves that New Order are great at doing raggae (which basically I don't care a damn about). So if they'll run out of musical ideas, they can always come up to raggae tunes :)
But it's such a sad song, about a dead son... Why do they sing it so happily and Hook's bass even tries cheer it up?

I can't believe i said that about Lee "Scratch" Perry. This is the guy who invented Dub, as well as producing every decent reggae band that ever came out of Jamaica. My humble apologies Mr Perry.
Ive got the Jimmy Cliff version on a 3cd box set of trojan explosion reggae which is really kickin'. Ive never heard the NO version - doesnt sound like im missing much, but im curious none the less.
I think this is a strange song. I like it because sounds uplift /this female back vocals on the chorus sounds happy but when you think its about Vietnam.../ typical NO style
It is their only songs that in my opinion sucks in all departments. Just plain awful disaster.
