been listening to Low Life again recently and the more i think about it Sooner Than You Think is the ultimate NO song, Hookys bass never better, barneys much critised lyrics superb, its a great song and very underrated / underplayed, what do you think...

Isn't this song about Barney and Hooky getting pissed on cheap Pernod on tour and screaming at each other?

Twas the first tune of Low-Life to be played live, 1983. Possibly the song that they or their equipment screwed up the most. Some gigs this song sounded like a fucking trainwreck. Yet they forged it and perfected it and is one of my favorites. Such a sad emotional chord going through it. I love it.

A very good under-rated song. The ending is fantastic.

Also this song sounds similar to Lets Go (original demo version). Listen to both again and youre see where Im coming from. I posted a thread on this but no one bothered to entertain me with their thoughts.

I've always felt this to be one of NO's most underated songs and yet in my opinion one of their best, Quite simply classic New order, It has all the ingredients so lets give this fucking great song some praise

I like the lyrics, the sound and most of all, Bernard's voice on this song:love: .

Low Life as a strong NO album ends with this song. It's the last great track I think..... From here onwards the album fizzles out a bit with the two hi-NRG pisstakes that follow. SubCulture sounded great at the time but horribly dated now and as for the Dead Or Alive intro to Face Up - they got to be taking the piss.

The worst thing that ever happened on Low-life was the crappy edit job they did on Perfect Kiss. The Ivan Ivan 7" version which is as rare as(unless you own a copy of EFR)was/is 100% better(well,at least as good as a 7" version of this fantastic 12" can be!!). I defo think the wanky bass intro to Face Up was taking the piss and the only thing I think spoiled the album mix of Subculture was the slightly weak vocal take(Robie's 12" mix is probably thier most dated-sounding 12").

Listening to Low-Life again recently I have come to appreciate STYT so much more, I used to love side and side 2, well... it was great but after Love Vigilantes, PK, Sunrise, a bit of a let down... But having read a lot of the reviews of various NO tracks here, I'm starting to spot different elements in songs and ther are some cracking bits in here, especially Hooky's bass and I definitely agree with however it was who said that the ending is brilliant... I never did understand or like the intro to Face Up though... still don't...
