Hi there you lurvely new order fans. Here is the first of a new series of weekly song reviews. The great thing about this is that I don't have to do anything... its YOU, the people who get to do this.

A song will be named and you must provide the following information:

Okay Major - let me be first in line then, for once...

1. The Introduction - one of the best NO ones ever!
2. The end (ha ha!!)
3. Well, Love it cus - that intro, having all been starved of NO for nearly FOUR years, hearing that intro was like welcoming back a great old friend whom you'd thought you'd never ever see again.... Only gripe - At 4.09 in length it it kind of ends a bit suddenly - which is a shame.
4. Rating? 8.5 out of 10

Right, it looks like i DO have to do something. Here is my humble opinion:

1. The "just wait till tomorrow" bit
2. I don't think it has a worst bit!
3. Barney's guitar bits sound nice.
4. I'll give it 90%

"Maybe I've forgotten..."...what I was going to say. What a coincidence! Played this single this morning as it is one of my faves.

1. Love the yearning in the lyrics...song came out at a time in my life where there was much chaos and confusion .

2. Gotta agree with the Major...don't think there are any bad bits to this song.

3. Remembered the excitement when this came out that finally there was some new NO. All 'typical' aspects of the NO sound are there, plus swell lyrics by Barney!!!

4. It's got a good beat, I can dance to it...I'll give it a 9 outta 10.

Ah Regret, a song i have long thought of as an almost perfectly crafted pop song. OK now with the review.

1. I love the Intro, the jangly guitar chord to the synthesiser and back, the lead up to and the line and "Look at me, I love you", and the break where the simple but beatiful bass line rolls to the front. And it was quite exellent to hear live, for me it was one of the songs i wanted to hear at my first NO concert and it was played!!
2. Not sure, it does end suddenly, without a big exit.
3. I love it as it was the the first new song i heard after I started to get into them at the start of the 90's, apart from world in motion and at that time i did not even know they did that song. I also love it as it is a song that i will never get tired of, it is always a song i listen to when putting on the NO

Okay then - Regret?

1- The best bit: chuffin' 'eck - how can I select the best bit? This is one of New Order's greatest ever singles, and there really isn't any bit that is superior to the rest - ALL of it is good. Maybe that bright guitar chord right at the very beginning is a nice kind of signal that, hooray...New Order ARE BACK!!! The intro must rank amongst the best they've ever done - almost up there with the first version of Ceremony. 2 - The lowest bit ....bit tough this...suppose the slight key change in the chorus i thought was weird the very first time i heard it, but other than that, we have a rare thing here - a FLAWLESS N.O. song in the 90's (not their best decade admittedly) 3 - Reason? Cos its a fucking damn fine song. One they haven't even equalled even to this day! 4 - 97% Cos I'm being very generous here! :) :) :)

[BTW - anyone else here notice some uncanny similarity between that choppy guitar riff that opens the song and also immediately precedes each chorus and the one after the pauses on that old classic single "Talk Of The Town" by The Pretenders? ..... Anyone?]

2. Worst bit is that you can't get an instrumental mix

1. the best bit: I'd have to say that the best part of this song.. would be...... Well, it can NEVER be screwed up live. Every live version I've ever heard sounded good to me.
2. the worst bit: Some of the remixes
3. why you love/hate it: I love it just because it has so much potential with any artist. It can be any style of music, if yo think about it. I even like Casey Strattons' trance version.
4. a percentage rating: Over all, a nice 87%. Not a fave, but sexcellent.

..About Blue Monday.. I thought it was "I've seen a ship in the harbour, It's in a shallow bay..." God, I suck.

1. Hooky's bass solo. Melancholy overload. Or the intro.
2. Nowt.
3. The 4 year wait (we'll skip over World in Motion), the guitar/synth intro, great lyrics, that Baywatch performance, the fact that it is just so New Order yet I don't know anyone who dislikes it.
4. 100%. Absolutely perfect. My favourite NO song and hence favourite song of all time.

I know a lot of you might disagree with this, but i think this is one of the few new order songs that benefited from Stephen Haugues production.

Not so much Regret, but True Faith is the track that has benefited most from Stephen Hagues production; they could not have done that much better themselves, I think. One of the reasons that Regret is by far the best track on Republic is the fact that they kept Hooky's bass on it.

Anayway, here's my review of Regret:

1. Best bit The moment the bass and drums kick in.
2. Worst bit There's no worst bit; the only thing that might have improved it is a 12 inch version with a long outro.
3. I love it because of the intro, the bass (especially on live versions), great melody (verse and chorus), the guitar bits, the fact that it has a few good remixes, especially the Fire Island one. Yes, I like the song :D
4. Percentage rating 9.5 out of 10. It is one of the closest they have come to a perfect pop song.

1. Everything (fantastic mix of guitar, drums, bass and synth) and the lyrics are moving to boot

2. Not a damn thing

3. I love the rockier sound of it compared to the rest of Republic, and it's the perfect radio song

4. 90 %

A bit of a let down at the time of its release but has got better to listen to over the years

1. the intro...when the drums and bass kick in

3. the lyrics are surprisingly good and in tune, damn catchy, what can i say. in my top 10.

A New Order classic from the start, when the band came back with this single after rumors of a possible break-up I knew that they would never break-up again ever!!!

Don't know where I was when it was released but heard it for the first time the other day and loved it from the start. Hadn't been a hardcore NO fan while admiring what I'd heard. Until now!

1. The intro, especially the guitars and the lyrics
2. I still haven't heard the remixes
3. 4.08 of pop perfection.

Actually, as I was filling in my registration thingy earlier and I thought for the first time about my favourite NO track and decided on the Fire Island mix. I just have to do a jig. I love the none New Order (more Winifred Atwell) piano that just fits perfectly. I understand some folk don't like the re mixes?

I'm sure Barney has his autocue wrong. As far as I'm concerned the the recorded version does indeed at least once say "Look at me, I'm not you"

But howabout "tonight as I go home I'll find my soul as I don't know" That's my orignial singalong version of Temptation

Best bit: the intro - catches you every time.

Worst bit : the feeling that the guitar dosent quite fit in with the rest of the tune

Love it because it marked the stage where my non-NO 'friends' realised that I could have a point about them

%: 80 (not a great favourite of mine, but at least I'm allowed to play it in public)

1. Best bit - That fizzy, giddy intro. It still throws me a little.

2. Worst bit - The instrumental section in the middle has always felt like a bit of an afterthought. It sounds like they meant to add something extra on top, but they kept putting it off and then forgot about it entirely.

3. Love/hate - It's nice and thick, with a real rich bottom end and it sounds like nothing they'd done previously. Plus, it's just a great tune. Really sunny. The only drawback is the production. I mean, it sounds fine, but weirdly enough it's aged a lot less well than some of their older stuff.

4. Rating - A solid 90%.

killer song, one of the best songs in music history.

i love the song sooo much because it works for me when i'm happy as well as when i'm sad.

A jump up and down at the front classic - READING 98

1> Like everyone else, I love the intro, and you can really hear the contribution of each of the band members. Besides the great guitar work, the chords are amazing. And they’re actually part of the music video, which is always a plus.

2> I don’t really like how he says "tel-a-phone" in the lyrics, plus it’s part of Republic, which I’m automatically reminded of how they didn’t get along during that time.

3> At the time it was released, I was only familiar with their more dance-oriented music, and I thought it was a little too “guitary” for my tastes. But it seemed to work, and it was Regret that got me to buy Low Life and Brotherhood and introduced me to NO as a band and not a typical Euro-dance band.

4> 93% -- Deserves an "A"

Best song ever. Hands down.

Best bit? Clearly the intro, the way you're teased along for a few seconds before everything comes crashing in and neworder "are back!"

Worst bit? Being picky here but the song is very compact & may have benefitted from an extended mix at some stage.

Why the love? Not just a great song in its own right but a great set opener. I still have fond memories of the ex nearly being crushed in the surge at the Ally Pally.

Percentage? 90%

1 - Best bit: From the opener to the end. Good stuff. 2 - Worst bit: When it ends of course. Needs a good extended mix. 3 - Why I *heart* it: Loved listening to this song back in middle school and, at the time, not knowing who it was. I still look back on those days. 4 - Percentage rating: 98%.

Complete classic. Memories flood back whenever I hear it.

1. It wasn't on Factory. Wilson knew 'Republic' wasn't up to scratch, though a thousand BP garages can't be wrong - can they???

2. I was mortified when I first heard this song. It sounded so regressive and like a poor man's 'Ceremony'(which was recorded in 1980). It suggested that the band had run out of ideas (which in most part was true). It was not a contemporary record and certainly proved the band were looking to the past for ideas, rather than inspiration...

3. The 'New Order' mix is infinitely better, though not perfect, shows maybe what the track should of sounded like. This confirms that 'production issues' were evident. Pascal Gabriel was originally down for duties I believe, and the final mix is far too conventional and sounds like a compromise. Barney's guitar sounds tedious and unnecessary and if I'd of mixed I'd of removed it completely and restructured the track. A song less than it's parts.

4. Still 6/10 - it isn't a bad record, but by their own high standards, average. Remember they were no longer an 'Indie' band and sound wise it shows.
