1 I think the best bits are the Bass at the start and the the woops in the interlude 2 There is nothing i think are the worst bits, sometimes i don't have patience for this song 3 I like this song as you can groove to it and i think it would be great live with Barneys propensity now to woop in any song, it would be good to hear songs where the woops are. 4 about 60%

Best bit: the rhythm parts

Worst bit: If I had to name one thing, it would be the lyrics. It's not that they're bad; they're not, it's just that they're sitting on top of that awesome groove.

Why I love/hate it: have always loved it from the beginning. As mentioned before, this song made perfect sense after an all-night drive to the bay area to see NO. As the dawn was just beginning to break, and I was getting closer to SF, the DJ from a college station put it on the air as a reminder that there was a gig that night. It made the drive totally worth while right then and there.

Rating: 9 and a half out of 10.

1. Best bit : the drum sound and percussive effects
2. Worst bit : the mix (Martin Hannett's rather flat production gives it no depth)
3. Reason: this song was constructed from really primitive electronics (they used to build their own drum machines a la Kraftwerk, I've read) and it's metallic clattery industrial sound is quite unique: it's also a great example of New Order combining harsh cold electronics with humanity (something they did even better on Temptation)
4. Marks?: 83%

1. Best part: I love the guitar when he's actually singing, the only guitar oriented thing that remains in most covers.
2. Worst part: It could be louder?
3. Yeah, what the Hell WAS three?
4. Grade: 92%

1. It got me into substance
2. Vocals a bit muffled
3. The whoopy chant things 4.90%

By the way, Major, I think these threads are a very good idea, even though I haven't participated so far. Focusing in on individual songs is more instructive than yet another list of ten favorites (or least favorites). However, lest I be misunderstood, H's thread on top two favorite songs was very useful, I thought.

I plan to contribute to the Regret thread after I've focused my barbs.

Best part: the end of it....I mean that funny warped syntheziser sound at the end. And the funky guitar bits. Worst part: there's no worst part in it, it just doesn't do much for me. The reason: it drags on a bit too long without going anywhere. Rating 65%

:drummer:

1. Best Bit: The sequenced synth-- particularly effective switching from the Bass line to the sequenced synth riff.

2. Worst Bit: Barney's guitar riff, Barney's whoops.

3. Why I love/Hate it: It's dance music for the intelligent; the interplay between the bass and the synth is really brilliant. Cold, techno, avant garde pop music.

4. Percentage Rating: 80%

excellant track I really like it

2. Worst bit: It's too quiet, you can hardly hear it

1. when both the drums, the bass, and the guitar come in. i like each one.
2. gets a bit repetitive, but not long enough to really tick me off. the vocal effect during the chorus rubs me the wrong way a bit.
3. one of the great early singles. the lyrics are good stuff. i wish it was faster.

I could gush about this track all day. I first heard it at my school disco (i was about 11 at the time),i wasnt too fussed on music before this night. The track stuck in my head all night so i asked the DJ what it was. I begged my mum to buy it me-my first NO record! Ive still got that copy now,admittedly i had to buy another years later cos its knackered. If it wasnt for the DJ that night who knows what id be listening to nowdays!.
