1 I think the best bits are the Bass at the start and the the woops in the interlude 2 There is nothing i think are the worst bits, sometimes i don't have patience for this song 3 I like this song as you can groove to it and i think it would be great live with Barneys propensity now to woop in any song, it would be good to hear songs where the woops are. 4 about 60%

Best bit: the rhythm parts

Worst bit: If I had to name one thing, it would be the lyrics. It's not that they're bad; they're not, it's just that they're sitting on top of that awesome groove.

Why I love/hate it: have always loved it from the beginning. As mentioned before, this song made perfect sense after an all-night drive to the bay area to see NO. As the dawn was just beginning to break, and I was getting closer to SF, the DJ from a college station put it on the air as a reminder that there was a gig that night. It made the drive totally worth while right then and there.

Rating: 9 and a half out of 10.

1. Best bit : the drum sound and percussive effects
2. Worst bit : the mix (Martin Hannett's rather flat production gives it no depth)
3. Reason: this song was constructed from really primitive electronics (they used to build their own drum machines a la Kraftwerk, I've read) and it's metallic clattery industrial sound is quite unique: it's also a great example of New Order combining harsh cold electronics with humanity (something they did even better on Temptation)
4. Marks?: 83%

1. Best part: I love the guitar when he's actually singing, the only guitar oriented thing that remains in most covers.
2. Worst part: It could be louder?
3. Yeah, what the Hell WAS three?
4. Grade: 92%

1. It got me into substance
2. Vocals a bit muffled

By the way, Major, I think these threads are a very good idea, even though I haven't participated so far. Focusing in on individual songs is more instructive than yet another list of ten favorites (or least favorites). However, lest I be misunderstood, H's thread on top two favorite songs was very useful, I thought.

I plan to contribute to the Regret thread after I've focused my barbs.

Best part: the end of it....I mean that funny warped syntheziser sound at the end. And the funky guitar bits. Worst part: there's no worst part in it, it just doesn't do much for me. The reason: it drags on a bit too long without going anywhere. Rating 65%

1. Best Bit: The sequenced synth-- particularly effective switching from the Bass line to the sequenced synth riff.

2. Worst Bit: Barney's guitar riff, Barney's whoops.

3. Why I love/Hate it: It's dance music for the intelligent; the interplay between the bass and the synth is really brilliant. Cold, techno, avant garde pop music.

4. Percentage Rating: 80%

1. when both the drums, the bass, and the guitar come in. i like each one.
2. gets a bit repetitive, but not long enough to really tick me off. the vocal effect during the chorus rubs me the wrong way a bit.
3. one of the great early singles. the lyrics are good stuff. i wish it was faster.

I could gush about this track all day. I first heard it at my school disco (i was about 11 at the time),i wasnt too fussed on music before this night. The track stuck in my head all night so i asked the DJ what it was. I begged my mum to buy it me-my first NO record! Ive still got that copy now,admittedly i had to buy another years later cos its knackered. If it wasnt for the DJ that night who knows what id be listening to nowdays!.

1. the rhythmitic, pulsating sequencer. i absolutley love the long instrumental outro after Barney sings "show me," and how the sequencer gets louder and louder as Barney's guitar fades out, and how the sequencer slowly slips out of sync with the drums near the end. i think this was the first song New Order used a sequencer, and it woks brilliantly. Everything's Gone Green really is the blueprint for 586 and Blue Monday... one could really see the progression from live shows as they perfect EGG, 586, and BM one after another.

2. Martin Hannet's surprising dull production. not up to his usual standards. he made the song sound flat and lifeless, with no bass extension.

3. it's dark, pop, rock, and dance all rolled into one. a very important New Order song as they got progressively more confidant in their self-production and songwriting abilities. it really is the first song they broke out of the Joy Division mold after "Movement," and i think that's really important. my favourite New Order single. 95%

Best--the haunted bass sound Worst--bass could be louder, needs cowbell Why--kick ass song all the way. Makes you move, makes you think. Clearly one of the prototypes of modern dance/techno music Rated 93.5

Great Hooky bass.Great lyrics.But i agree the production is a bit flat and it could have been a lot better if they had kept it more true to some of the live versions like on the Taras Shevchenko vid from New York 81 or the Kilkenny gig April 83.The sequencer on those live performances is much superior.

1. best: the breakdown at the end.
2. worst: need to crank up the system to get full effect of the song.
3. a truly classic dance song that still ranks as one of the most unique things ever done. near the top of the new order canon in my opinion.

Best bit: A sad, but bouncy electronic tune? Who knew it could be done.

Worst bit: Its a bit too long if you're not in the mood for it, otherwise none.

Why I love/hate it: Nostalgia from the 80s? I remember after I first listened to it on Substance that it and Blue Monday seemed so futuristic and cutting edge electronically. There was more of a sense of urgency from the New Order sound than most bands.

The lyrics are mega man! and London has the 2012 Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was prob. written & programmed with a kitbuilt sequencer but it was the real beginning of NO's Dance/Rock crossover(Shame about Marty's production job though-it's the only thing that stopped it going Top 20 in 81 IMHO-time to do a remake for 2006 to link up with the forthcoming album & for fooks sake keep it in the live set guys!!)

Great track to start seperating themselves from the Joy Division sound. I beleive it was a turning point.

Best Bit : "help me, somebody help me, I wonder where I am" (certainly Barney's most sensible lyrics) + spinning sharp synthetizers all around + echoing Hooky's bass

Worst Bit : when it ends

Why I love it : cold and intense, synthetic and pulsating. The impression you are brought to a basement in the middle of an 80s underground party.

• easy to mix with the excellent "Out of control" by the Chemical Brothers (same rythm on the synthetic bass)

Best bit " help me!" and "oh e oh E ow" worst: needs to be played LOUD % - 90

3. a song way ahead of its time. I didn't appreciate the song when I first heard it in 88. I only appreciated it this millenium when I reallzed, "oh, this song is ahead of its time."

One of my fav NO singles.

wow, this is old. Everthing's Gone Green was the first New Order song I heard. I liked it more every time I listened to it. Memories...

Nothing (still) sounds like it. From the long intro before the vocals, to the sinister ending it was just a step forward in music. The production is muffled but to be fair i read Hannett was teaching them how to produce and allowed each member to set their own levels in the mix which would explain a lot. But then the DIY sound is half the charm. Litmus test for me is it could be released tomorrow and would still sound modern. 98%

Still sounds like nothing else and showed them the future even though they had already created it. If only Hannett hadn't fallen out with Factory a little it later he would of produced 'Temptation' in it's original form and it would of been heaven sent, even though it already was.

I remember when listening to 'Get Ready' when it came out and thinking the band could learn a lot by hearing 'Everything...' again -as it more advanced even though it was 20 years old at that point! Barney didn't like his vocal at this stage of his career, but it suited me fine!

9/10 Brilliant and still under rated.
