For the next two weeks i will be away from this board, locked in a small room with a bass guitar and 17 fray bentos pies for company.

Therefore i have chosen two songs to keep you occupied while i am gone....

They are....

True Faith first:

  1. Best bit - not a lot
  2. Worst bit - it exists
  3. Like/dislike - can't really stand it to be honest
  4. 40%

Spooky:

  1. Best bit - Magimix remix
  2. Worst bit - it's not right
  3. Like/dislike - picked 'em this week aintcha Major ?:)

True Faith

  1. Best bit - probably the lyric structure, hearing it live, the artwork and of course the video!

  2. Worst bit - overexposure :sleep2:

  3. Like/dislike - always had a soft spot for this, however although undoubtedly a classic part of their history, it does tire quite a lot after all these years, and "morning sun" chorus is a bit cheesy

  4. 70%

Spooky

  1. Best bit - The brave techno approach interlaced with some fine hooky bass and some extra fragile delivery Sumner magic :)

  2. Worst bit - quite forgettable, that dodgy stadium instrumental mix!! features some quite shallow lyrics

  3. Like/Dislike - its not "special" ;) like the artwork though :)

Oy vey, two I can actually remember without having to listen to again for the first time in months....

True Faith (TF)

  1. The opening part (full length intro on Substance, savagely cut for the single and video version)

  2. Said cut in single version

  3. The first appearance of the chorus, and also the line about "now that we've grown up together, they're afraid of what they see"

  4. 99 %

Spooky (S)

  1. After the intro stops and the song starts

  2. The intro

  3. It's one of my favorites off Republic, and really makes me love that album in spite of the insistance that it's sh*t

  4. 85 %

with True Faith...its one of my top three favorities, so it gets a 100% with no reasons attached

Spooky

the title is great, even sounds a little spooky not much no not like about it another song where everything just seems to flow really nice, no strained vocal, instrument overload...just everything blends really well

Right. I hope you're referring to the ORIGINAL versions here, (Fac 173/Republic LP cut) yeah?

TRUE FILTH

  1. Intro. The song on the flip.
  2. The video.
  3. New Order's most blatant POP single - and boy did it sell!
  4. 65%

SPACKY

  1. The fade-out
  2. The rest of the song.
  3. Piss poor song really. Complete red herring of an intro too.
  4. 20%

Ok, I will also have and attempt at this one. 1st TRUE FAITH

1 Best Bit - Most of it. I particularly enjoy the fade out at the end for some reason 2 Worst Bit - I listen to the b-Side more now 3 Like It - This was the first NO song i heard on Vinyl, The 12" with 1963 on the flip side 4 Rating - 80% 5 Favorite Pie(Savoury) - Chicken & Leek

Now SPOOKY 1 Best Bit - How the Intro slides into the first verse(synth it baby), and the pleading/longing/yearning (do you yearn? yes i yearn) quality to the sound of Barneys Lyrics 2 Worst Bit - Sounds a little like young offender? The video clip pisses me off a bit 3 Like It - I do, I quite enjoy most songs of Republic, and although not near the quality of Regret i do enjoy this song. Sound a bit like what the PSB does though. 4 Rating - 65% 5 Favourite Pie(Sweet)- Apple and Loganberry :evil4:

the drum sounds on both TF and 1963 are fantastic, in my opinion.

True Faith

  1. Love the whole song and the fact that it was a sizable hit here stateside.

  2. worst part is that I've been asked if that was the Pet Shop Boys after playing it (twice).

  3. have never tired of hearing this. Of course, I don't listen to it everyday, but I always turn up the volume when it comes on.

  4. Rating 90%

  5. Don't know anything about those pies, how bout some nice blood pudding? One of the restaurants we sell to bought a 15 pound bucket of blood; I didn't ask what they were gonna do with it either

SPOOKY

  1. Best bit is the intro and the title.

  2. Worst bit is that it really doesn't offend in any way, just sort of floats by me in a nondescript way.

  3. Largely indifferent to it and its charms

  4. Rating 60%

  5. Think I'll make a chicken curry tomorrow, at least I'll know what is in my food.

TRUE FAITH

1 BEST BIT: The beginning, I must have heard this song hundreds of times but the intro still moves me, specially when they played it on the radio.

2 WORST BIT: The very sad souls that when this song gets played at the clubs start mimicking the choreography of the video.

3 LOVE IT: I think it's the sunniest (no pun intended) of all the NO songs.

4 RATING: 99%

5 ON FRAY BENTOS PIES: Why anyone would want to eat them escapes me, even GLENDALE´s DONNER KEBABS are better.

OK, here goes:

Spooky:

  1. a so-so techno-ish song, kinda pretty if I'm in the mood
  2. too repetitive, not singleworthy (but NO's never been too good with judging that, have they? ahem, vanishing point). dumb video.

Well I am young NO fan since Get Ready and when I heard Spooky for first time it sounds so nice and hard. I thing about Richie Hawtin – minusorange 1. These two tracs have something touch on. True Faith – great song, no words about it.
