This is an archived legacy thread. Replies are closed, but the discussion is preserved.

I hope you will enjoy it ;)

You can create "game threads", if you will, this is especially for that, because I know some people will want to discuss about this a lot.

It will be merged back with BCD once the world cup is over.

And there should be a bunch of temp moderators as well, I believe this one will need staff from many countries

My appreciation for football/soccer has increased so much thanks to the World Cup. I had nothing better to do at work than to watch the World Cup in Spanish and I have to admit, it's awesome to watch. I can't watch it on ESPN2 though cause the American commentators are god aweful boring. I don't speak Spanish but a something simple like a corner kick is exciting to them. What I love about this is:

non-stop play. no commercials. 1 1/2 hr of play done in less than 2 hours. American football is 60 minutes of actual game play but it takes 3 hrs because of commericals and time-outs.

The complete team sport. No one relies solely on the team Superstar. Everyone is important.

The toughness of the players. The endurance levels of these guys are insane. They get tackled and steped on. Baseball players pull a hamstring running 90 feet to first base.

I also love the fact that I don't have a favorite team, so each game is as exciting as the next for me. Altough, I was hoping for Mexico to advance to the final 8 because I wanted to see all the Mexicans in Chicago go nuts.

There is just one thing I don't get...

Where's Greece? Didn't they win the Euro 2 years ago?

Yes, they did, but winning the European Football Championship don't give you a spot in the World Cup. All national teams (with the exception of the host nation, which qualifies automatically) have to play the qualification for the World Cup.

Yeah, the same thing happened to Denmark in 1994.
