fuck that! get Terry to do it. Gerrard's got enough on his plate captaining the most successful club in the history of British football.

Oh, they probably could... it would be an attraction.

But it would be ridiculous, since the caliber is not high enough for such a player.

Beckham will only leave Madrid if they want him out, he won't transfer out of choice. I would be surprised if he gets another international cap now though, he's gonna be out of the Greece friendly with that achilles injury, and he won't be first choice wide right anymore now that Sven's gone.

Bit harsh peeps!

Beckham has been a good captain and player for England, but his time is up. No need to slate the bloke.

As for Gerrard as captain- not a hope in hell. He can lead a small team, but no way a nation- not got the balls for it!

Has to be JT.

I'm glad he's not captain.

Making him captain ensured that even if he was out of form or ineffective in a match, Eriksson would still play him.

I think he's the most overrated player there's ever been in the history of the game. If there wasn't the whole Beckam deifed branding out there, he'd actually be respected more as a very good midfielder with a fantastic ability to maniplulate a football.

As it stands, you see the adverts, the photographs, the hype, and the global reach of the guy, and then you watch him play. There's a slight deficit between the two.

Should never have been captain - although I thought he did a decent dignified job of it, apart from the Greece game in 2001, he didn't lead as a capatin should.
