Website buys Football Club !

£35 quid each

Brilliant! a football community website has bought a football club. Every member chipped in £35 quid, and raised 700k !

members of the website are now officially football club owners, and will vote every week to pick the team, transfer players and generally run the club. How long till they sack the manager?

Lets all chip in £35 quid and buy someone better..........maybe we can raise enough money for the England National team and do a better job

or we could even buy a Band

I looked long and hard at this before deciding not to invest, when it was just an idea and before they had any clubs lined up.

While it could have worked in principle if they stuck to the ownership of the club, it is doomed to failure as soon as they start trying to pick the team and deciding tactics, who is substituted etc. Nobody will convince me that the man on the terrace or in the armchair actually does know more than the guy who has lived and breathed football as a career all his life, has played the game at the highest levels etc. Liam Daish must be fearing the tin tack every 5 minutes now with this new thing!

If they'd decided to approach it from the perspective of the website paid members owning the club and appointing a board of directors/chief executive (not necessarily from within the website membership but appointed by them), and left the football side to those who know what they are talking about and who have the necessary experience, then it could have been a winner. I tried to persuade them that this would be a much more commercially viable proposition, but no, they've all played Championship Manager and think they are fucking experts in the game.

I'll just stick to my UEFA Coaching License and the terraces, a lot easier and I'm £35 better off. Do I win £40?

You're right, it's basically 20,000 people all playing championship manager with the same team. With the average of the decisions being carried out.

Interesting in theory. They will all fall out, but in all cases they will have the majority to blame. And it'll be easier to fall-out/make-up online!

I signed up when the website first opened and decided not to spend the 65 US for much the same reasons as Tim.

I'm confused why they don't run it like a Trust--but with majority ownership.
