What's Tyneside's catchment area? 1.3 millionish people? in a one club city..You'd think they'd fill the stadium on that. What's Teesside's catchment? 180,000 people.. Teesside is much less populated than Tyneside ofcourse.. But Boro have Steve Gibson,a proper owner and No1 fan. Boro marched to a European final,and won the League cup.Newcastle have done nothing at all have they.Speaks for itself really..Boro are top dogs in the North East when you deal in the facts.Newcastle are underachievers and deluded hype ar'nt they? If you wanna take bragging rights from winning the League cup and having your arses kicked in the UEFA cup final, go for it. We've played Champions League football and, more often than not, have finished higher than you lot in the league. The facts speak for themselves.

We are great fans, considering there has been little return from the team over the years (apart from the best football the Premier League has seen played under Kevin Keegan that is. See my earlier point on KK). No urban myth about it.

Over the life of the Premier League only Man U have a larger average attendance and they've had plenty the cheer. Newcastle fans compare favourably to everyone else in this respect.

Over the last 15 years, the Capacity of St James's Park has increased by approx 15,000 because of the development of the new stands. That was the period that Al referred to when quoting the stats. So yes, the capacity has increased quite a lot and there's still a waiting list for season tickets.

For those up in the cheap seats who aren't listening, the point I was making is that we fill St James's to capacity, even though we've pretty much been below average over the last 5 years. That's a loyal crowd.

I don't know why that's so hard for people to get their heads around.

How can Newcastle have ever played the best football? The best football played in the Premier League has been played by either Man United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal or Chelsea, that is winning football.

This is what annoys me about "The Toon" all this "we played the best football" bullshit. You cant play the best football if you dont win anything. Give me five at the back, a big man upfront and long ball any day at the week, because it'll always be more successful than that "tactics" Newcastle employed in the mid 90's.

The winning team doesn't always play the best football Liam, and teams that play the long ball game certainly don't.

The football we played under KK last time he was here was fantastic to watch and, for the most part, also very effective

You are of course right. I've looked back and you never anywhere mentioned that Boro are a big club...glad we've established they aren't.

Petal does look derogatory in print but I accept that wasn't how it was intended so I will take back what I said about that, it was unfair.

As for sticking to football, I believe I was talking about football aswell and answering the point someone made about the lack of fans being interested in the club in the eighties.
